Weird, it should work just fine. (works for a lot of other users here it seems)

 

What happens exactly when you go to http://your-server-ip:8080?

Does the page seem to try to load? Have you tried different browsers?

 

Did you provide the correct volume/disk name when installing? (by default, it wants to install Sabnzbd on "/disk1/~" or something along those lines, where Synology is built starting the first volume as "/volume1/~").

1. I tried the option to put the synology to sleep and then wake back up. It went to sleep but didn't wake so I presume it cannot do that on the 54l?

To get WOL to work, you'll need to edit some hex values, and assign your 'true' machine MAC address, rather than the spoofed one that the XPEnology image is loading by default.

Alternatively you could install "Advanced Power Manager" as suggested by DHD here: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1789 -- this is what I'm using, and it's working without issues.

 

2. The qnap logs me out of its web setup after a period of time of not using it but the synology has kept me logged in since Sunday which I find not very secure. Other than logging of manually should it auto log off?

Login to your web interface, "Control Panel" - "DSM Settings" - "Security" tab - Change logout timer.

 

3. Is there a way to have the qnap and synology automatically mirror one another. I have tried the rsync but I had to manually start that off.

Use rsync together with cron. Here's a guide.
