@Mattail,
- Good to hear that the CPU works well, didn't receive my product yet. Cant wait to get my hands on it
@Toy,
- This will also be my media server.
With 7 users streaming media (1080p/DTS and possible transcoding) via PLEX this will get the job done, furthermore I won't need to make any changes any time soon (HD Expanding excluded).

Done a little bit more searching and found: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7564
Hopefully I can do a review after I install XPenology for those who want to buy the same chipset.

Hi There,
I was a proud owner of a Synology 216+, but the lack of power and the overpriced higher models pushed me to build my own NAS.
Now I already have a new build in mind, but unfortunately I can't find some good advice on the MB and CPU in combination with XPenology(some Russian topics excluded).
The only thread mentioning the MB H170i is: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18689&p=70144&hilit=h170#p70144
The base components for me will be:
-
Intel Core i7-6700T 2.8GHz Quad-Core Processor (35 watt TDP)
Asus H170I-PRO Mini ITX Motherboard (DDR4, M.2 and Dual gigabit support) https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H170I-PRO/specifications/
My questions are regarding the SATA compatibility, my motherboard supports:
-
1 x SATA Express port, , Compatible with 2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (both SATA & PCIE mode)
4 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s)
Q: Will the integrated M.2 storage be supported?
Q: Will the SATA ports be compatible with XPENOLOGY.
For the curious ones, this is my build (I already own the SATA drives)

Thanks in advance for the time and answers!! thoughts/feedback on anything is appreciated.

UPDATE:
First I tried to run DSM 6.0.1-7393 to see how stable it was, my advise DON'T DO IT YET!!!!!!
Ridiculous CPU burst, shifting interface, DLNA recognize (by smart TV's) not working.
Now I installed version DSM 5.2-5967 and I am very impressed!
Quickconnect - CPU Cores - Dual Ethernet (bonding) works like a charm, all SATA discs including M.2 (SSD) works great.
an full HD 1080P + DTS streaming (with transcoding) uses +- 20% CPU, enough power to run all kind of extra things on the background!
