  1. Deffo not signal as running tvheadend on another machine works fine (hdhomerun as source is very useful for this type of trouble shooting!)..

Think I've just narrowed it down to something in my synology SYSTEM SOFTWARE setup :(

    Originally I was running  1.03b 3617.

I created a new boot usb stick with 1.04b 918+

booted up and migrated disks using the same pat no (but 918+).

reinstalled tvheadend (as 918 requires apollow not broadwell)

    and found continuity problems.

Swapping back to original boot usb (1.03b / 3617), migrating again, and reinstalling tvheadend all was well no continuity errors...

Swapped back again to  1.04b 918+  this morning and migrated again to try docker tvheadend - same problems with continuity errors...

So just tried  1.04b 918+ (same stick) but with a totally fresh install (well, I mean clean) hard disk and native tvh now works fine.

So looks like something being left over on the system partion causing problems. Haven't a clue where to start there though lol!

You are ignoring the fact that Synology compiles DSM for each piece of hardware.  We have support for the DS918 build via 1.04b and DS3615 via 1.03b.

The only requirement for Haswell is the DS918 DSM image as it is compiled with FMA3 instructions.

As long as you stay on loader 1.03b and DS3615 DSM you should be able to run 6.2.1 fine.  However, on this loader and 6.2.1, very few network drivers are able to boot - e1000e is the one most are successful with. I think you have a 82576 NIC (you said 82676) which is supported by the igb driver.  You can try it but if the network won't come up, you may need to disable in BIOS and add a e1000e NIC such as an 82571, 82574 or 82579 and it should work.

Sorry for the hijack, so it would be unwise to use the 918/1.04b loader with a haswell i3 4150 setup as the synology software may at some point execute an FM3A instruction which the i3 4150 doesn't have?

Try tvheadend from linuxserver.io on docker.
It has vaapi enabled, and all libraries ready.
On creating docker comand you just need to map yout dvb device, to be available inside docker, simple as that.

They have all steps on their site, and its very simple.

I'm using a hdhomerun quad (rather than tbs pcie card) now so should be easier as no mapping all network :)

Quick question, is the docker image platform dependant - ie different images for broadwell, bromolow, appollolake etc?

Also, I presume I'll be able to map a drive into the container so I can copy my existing tvheadend config files (dvr files etc) and map to //volume1/video/TV_Recording etc?

Cheers for the info JMRR :)

  4. Hi!

Just switched from 3617xs to the 918+ loader to take advantage of the hardware encoding for plex.

That works great BUT now getting lots of continuity errors in tvheadend.

Not the hardware as nothing else changed - just the boot stick and reinstall appollolake version of tvh.

Googled but couldn't turn up anything...

    Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone using tvheadend ok with the 918+ loader ?

    Cheers!

    EDIT:

Left it running for a while to see if it would settle but it crashed:

  5. Hi!

How can I configure for 18 disk ports?

    My 3617sx 1.03 works fine with synoinf.conf:

    esataportcfg="0x0"
    usbportcfg="0xc0000"
    internalportcfg="0x3ffff"
    maxdisks="18"

but with the 1.04b 918+ loader it doesn't show more than 16 slots?

    Thanks!

  6. Hi!

I'm trying to compile dsm 6.2 for broadwell with the drm intel graphics (goal is to get intel quick going for hardware transcoding on plex).

The build is failing though, any ideas anyone?

    The output where it fails:

  7. Booted with the  D918  loader with a couple of spare disks and checked that h/w transcode in plex does work on my hardware:

    msi eco h97 mboard

    haswell i3/4150

All seems ok, hw transcode does work (confirmed by dev/dri present, (hw) symbol present and cpu usage minimal)

D918 loader 1.04 with dsm 6.2 supports my onboard nic, sybase 4port sata and sas 8 port controller.

Are there any restrictions with D918?  Software that won't work or other hardware restrictions?

Can it support more than 16 drives (I currently have 18 ports) ?

Is Vbox ok on it (forgot to try!) ?

    Thanks!

  8. Cheers

Have just come across the Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD card which at 109euros is a fair bit cheaper than the tbs6205 @ 165euros..

Chips look similar according to linuxTV:

    Silicon Labs Si2157 (tuners, 4)

    Silicon Labs Si2168 B40 (demodulators, 4)

    Conexant CX23888 (PCIe Interfaces, 2)

    Pericom PI7C9X2G304 (PCIe switch, 1)

These all seem to be included in the open source zip (and firmware available from openelec git) so wondering if this might be a cheaper alternative..

  9. Hi!

A few months on now and still working great - apart from the usb tuner side of thing! Are there any usb tuners (HD) which are reliable with the open source drivers?!

Thinking of getting a tbs6205 quad to replace my 6281 dual. How's yours going as I've read some reports of over heating?

Will be using it for dvbt/2 only.

I assume I'll just need to amend my script to include the different modules required for the 6205's chips?

currently used modules for dual tbs card:

    MODULES_START1="media.ko dvb-core.ko si2157.ko si2168.ko cx24117.ko tas2101.ko saa716x_core.ko"

    MODULES_START2="saa716x_budget.ko"

    Cheers!

good to know its working well.

usb devices on syno have that problem, from time to time they disconect, i dont know why but i have that problem to.

in my case i use sn usb smartreader, and even reboot doesent bring him to live, i have to shutdown and start, or unplug it and plug it again.

if some one know why , please bring it on.

regardling tbs i have one 6281(dual dvb-c/t) and one 6205(quad dvb-c/t), its an exelent card.

i have only one thing to try out, is to use the 6205 dvbt and dvb-c at same time, this card has only on rf in, so does any electronig guro know how to divide inpput?

i can combine dvb-c and dvb-t on same cable with a diplexer, but it lost a lot of signal( but works), so its possible.

i would like to have 2 tunners on dvb-c and other tu tunners on dvb-t, and remove the 6281.

atm i have 6281 using dvb-t(dual), and 6205 using dvb-c(quad), the only way to do this is using open source drivers because tbs doesent allow this on closed source ones( dont know why).

the last option is to use um usb dvb-t card, does any one know a good one(preferebly dual, but single is good too).

  11. Hi JMRR,

Just a quick follow up a week or 2 on.

The TBS card is working great with tvheadend 4.1.2190..

The Afatech usb has stopped working after a few days a couple of times, requiring either pulling out/reinserting or unloading modules and tvheadend etc.

I think that's down to the usb drivers though..

Many thanks again, considering getting a tbs quad dvb-t2 card to replace the 6821 as I've had the dreaded 'no cards free' message a few times

Your help has allowed me to shutdown my tv server box and only run my main synology box - actually saving me money (on electricity) for once besides being 'cool' lol

  12. Success! Using a different directory for the modules worked.

Also got the alfatech USB tuner going at the same time - didn't realise the open source release had all the needed modules for it

Happy to use the si firmwares too..

    Many thanks!

  13. OK cool have managed to get the drivers working by this method:

    delete the backports_dvb dir

    reboot

    recreate the backports_dvb dir

copy over the files (using your latest open source).

    Problems remaing to be solved:

When I reboot however the files are overwritten due to the upgrade file check - i see the checking/updating going on during the boot.

I also need to also get a usb tuner going - An alfatech AF9033 ITE9035.

I'm currently trying to sus which modules that uses but i see it uses some duplicate ones - dvb-core for example..

    So far:

    media.ko

    si2157.ko

    rc-core.ko

    dvb-core.ko

    dvb_usb_v2.ko

    dvb-usb-af9035.ko

    af9033.ko

    it913x.ko

Does this mean that it will be impossible with linux? Is it possible to recompile the alfatech af9033 with the same shared source as the tbs drivers to make them compatible?

    Cheers!

  14. About the open source:

Some of those (e.g dvb-core) already exist. Do I overwrite duplicates?

Do I insmod only these in the same order as shown:

    media.ko

    dvb-core.ko

    si2157.ko

    si2168.ko

    cx24117.ko

    tas2101.ko

    saa716x_core.ko

    saa716x_budget.ko int_type=1

Also, does it matter that I'm using another usb tuner (I guess this is why dvb-core etc are already loaded)

Hmm i've noticed that when i reboot the box it checks the upgrade file and then recopies si2157 & si2168 over it..

    Noticed some messages in dmesg:

    [ 96.646010] SAA716x Budget 0000:02:00.0: irq 44 for MSI/MSI-X

[ 96.654167] DVB: registering new adapter (SAA716x dvb adapter)

    [ 96.654176] insmod: page allocation failure: order:0, mode:0xd2

Thanks - as you can tell i'm a linux newbie...
