apple3000 Posted February 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) MyPC is i7 3770, realtek Giga family. RTL8168. I have same issue above. I used jun's 1.0.2b 916p synoboot.img. and extra.lzma v 4.5 from but, web browser or synology Asistant did not found my PC Test 2. I have tested on Vmware12 (network driver is intel1000e. i edited vmx.) my PC detected over network, and I installed successfully 916+ on vmware. extra.lzma not include my PC network driver? realtek 8168? But i saw extra.lzma 4.5 included r8168 driver from it 's driver list. Test3. with 3617sx synoboot.img MyPC detected over network. So, I guess that 916+ extra.lzma has driver issue. Dfds Posted February 7, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2018 Unless your hardware is similar to the DS916+ you should be using the DS3615xs image.

At the result, didn't find pc. So I changed 4.5 extra.lzma. 2. 1)Real testing PC1 - H61S1 (samsung OEM, onboard lan, realtek giga 8168), i7 3770 cpu 3rd gen. --> Failed. 2)Real testing PC2 - H110 (Juyeon OEM, onboard lan, realtek giga 8168), i7 6770 cpu 6th gen. -->Failed. 3)virtual testing PC3 -ASUS H81M-C (Juyeon OEM, onboard, lan reatek giga 8168, i7 4790 4th gen - VMWARE12 TESTing. i wrote above. vmware testing Success. All PC support intel -VT and enabled. 3. how to add the realtek card to the vm? i edited .vmx and add e1000 (intel) but i don't know how to add realtek lan. i tested network mod, NAT, Bridged. And i succedded at 2 methods. isn't bridge mode mean real host's lan adaptor? then bridge mode means my realtek8168 lan.. i will try to test more and more. Another check ? give me help. very thanks for your concerning.
IG-88 Posted February 8, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 8, 2018 it was about handing over the pci-express device directly to the vm, no driver, bridge or anything, esxi does support that and i guessed vmware workstation does too (its called passthrough or vmdirectpath and in esxi its in advanced settings) but looks like it does not because windows does controll the hardware when using vmare workstation (i guess) finding out with the log whats going on can be painful as the way is about connection a serial cable and having a computer on that serial connection to read the output (terminal like putty), its much easyer if you have it up and runnig how about putting additional nic (other then realtek) into a system and install dsm, and after installing you can connect by that nic to the system and see the log about the onboard realtek nic

IG-88 Posted February 17, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 17, 2018 i commented about minimal 4th gen cpu earlier but the Test2 was about using the 916+ successfully on that hardware running vmware under it, if the hardware is not compatible that should not have worked - or was the description misleading? was the 916+ test2 done on a different hardware running vmware workstation12? Boot success. but couldn't find at synology asistant. maybe NIC 8168 module problem. So I prepare another NIC, intel lancard "CT 1000 gigabit". when boot with intel lan, boot succeeded, and it was founded at synology asistant. and install finally succeeded. summary.. above all. PC1, 2, 3 have all realtek 8168 gigabit lan. PC1 -i7 3770 3rd Gen, not working. because CPU is not compatible. that's right. it shows "Kernel panic - not syncing: Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu ~~~" on log. PC2 - i7 6770 6th Gen, Working. but needs intel NIC. Realtek8168 not working. PC3- i7 4790 4th Gen, working on VMWARE. I didn't test real pc. but it will be succeed, too at real pc because 4th Gen pc. So, 916+ needs over 4th Gen CPU, and needs intel 1000 NIC or another NIC. realtek8168 not working. thanks. IG-88 Posted February 23, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 23, 2018 we need to be precise about the cips in question as there is a lot of problems with the naming of the driver (as you are using it) so from your discretion its: PC1. IG-88 Posted February 24, 2018 Share #18 Posted February 24, 2018 kind of good it happens with jun's extra.lzma too, so i did not messed up anything with my newer driver from realtek 916+8168G_NIC_onboard.txt show that the driver was loaded and a eth0 was created so driver works (mostly) only thing is that it does not get a dhcp adress, its just an APIPA adress 169.254.14.204 it looks the same with the intel (dualport) nic, loads, eth0/eth1 present but only gets a APIPA adress the thing i'm interested in is the /var/log/dmesg from a system that uses intel (or any working nic), was installed with dsm and after this realtek card added (lan connected on both), the dmesg should contain information about the r8168.ko driver loading, finding hardware and maybe commenting about anything thats wrong i'll have to get me a better/newer test hardware for a few days, i guess i will see that it is a intel based that can handle 916+ and i will borrow that realtek pcie card too so i might be able to test that combination the next days myself
IG-88 Posted February 25, 2018 Share #19 Posted February 25, 2018 (edited) hi, did some testing and there was no problem with the driver in general, it does work/load in the same way is it does for the 3615 one odd thing (also seen with the 3615, did test it when seeing it with 916+) is that at first try after first boot with flash drive (no dsm installed) and realtek on the net, synology assistant showed a apipa address (like seen in your logs), as i was giving my desktop a additional address from this range i could access it the over the web-interface and install dsm (manual, dsm from local file) i also tried installing dsm with a intel nic and after this inserting the realtek as 2nd nic and there was nothing special to notice, just showed up and got a dhcp address, nothing unusual in log, also removing the intel after install was no problem, realtek came up as 1st nic in dsm after this i tried a fresh install without the intel card and only the realtek, with the same loader i used for the intel nic (mac address of intel in grub.cfg) and the dhcp worked as expected, no apipa dress just the same address the intel got before, but i could not reproduce it, after changing the mac in grub.cfg the realtek nic got a normal dhcp address so the driver works, just there seems to be a strange dhcp problem with the boot loader on first install, but when using the synology assistant it shows the correct ip address (apipa range) and when using the apipa address with the browser the install process worked (also did tests with first 6.1(.0) and 6.1.5 as first install but there was no difference, worked as expected) /var/log/dmesg ... Although trying several times, but assistant found xpenology on lan At First booting.after rebooting , at 5 step, error 23. Assistant did not find xpenology on lan. I don't know why. just was successful only using intel lan. thanks your testing report.
IG-88 Posted February 27, 2018 Share #21 Posted February 27, 2018 so you still can try installing with intel nic, after install connect both nic's to network, use intel to ssh and check /var/log/dmesg and webgui for 2nd nic, if both nic's are present and getting a dhcp address i would think it will work to remove the intel nic and using the onboard realtek, if the intel works and the realtek does not you can post errors from dmesg and messages about he realtek nic

I input static ip address to both nic's. So intel has *.*.*.75 realtek has *.*.*.76 dmesg1 is first thing. intel + realtek. dmesg2 is second. rebooting and i connected to realtek , still has intel nic. dmesg3 is 3rd. i ejected intel nic and booting with realtek. by the way, this reatek nic has *.*.*.75 in lanport 1. but worked. dmesg3_connect_to_rtl8168(onboardreltek_removeintel) dmesg2_connect_to_rtl8168(intel+onboardreltek) dmesg1_connect_to_intel(intel+onboardreltek)
