Missing 5th drive in DVD caddy

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Here I have Dell PowerEdge R415. I installed 4 HDDs in hard drive trays and 1 SSD in DVD caddy (taking original optical drive off). I booted it with Jun's loader, successfully installed DSM6.1.4 and built RAID 6 with 4 HDDs. At first, I hope to use SSD as cache. But DSM won't recognize SSD (5th drive) in DVD caddy. However, SSD's seen in BIOS.

I logged into DSM's ssh console and checked dmesg. I found no messages related to fifth drive. Any suggestions?

    Related pictures are attached below.

And dmesg log file is here: dmesg-log.txt

Picture1 - SSD is connected through "SATA E" cable.

Here's the lspci log file.

Well, now I guess SSD's attached to IDE controller.

Thank you for all your replys and help.

I booted Dell PowerEdge R415 with Ubuntu Server 16.04 as advised, and the attached file is the log @Polanskiman asks for.

Now I guess I missed the driver "pata_atiixp" and don't know how to configure that in DSM6.1.4 yet.

all pata_* and sata_* drivers are broken because of the modifications synology did to the original kernel (they dont need the drivers) so as long as no one fixes this, we don't have this drivers for 6.1

using a 2/4-poet controllers that is supported by the ahci driver is the cheapest way i guess
