JanHoedt Posted January 8, 2018 #1 Posted January 8, 2018 Hi, Is it possible to install XPENology on Synologies Virtual Machine manager? J. Quote
IG-88 Posted January 31, 2018 #2 Posted January 31, 2018 imho you just install the "vmm version" of dsm from synology, called "VirtualDSM", nothing special like jun's loader needed Quote
Half-Ogre Posted May 24, 2018 #3 Posted May 24, 2018 Hi.But there's only one free license for VDSM.What if i need 2-3 of them to separate projects, hardcap disk limit and delegate administration?Using loader inside VVM is one of realistic case. Quote

I’ve installed XPE on my ds3617xs. Synology VMM can only import OVA format. Process is: Create a VM using VMware Workstation Pro using Juns 6.2 loader, then export it to OVF. Import the VM into VMware Fusion (MAC) and then export VM to OVA format. Import the OVA on Syno’s Virtual Machine Manager. Power on VM, use Assistant to look for the Syno, then install PAT file. OldSmurf56 Posted April 19, 2019 #5 Posted April 19, 2019 I know this is an old thread ... but I'll give it a shot anyway. @rgarjr: I followed your simple process to the letter and the import works nicely. But when I try to power it up, it just tells me "Failed to power on the virtual machine". Do I need to map any ISO files after the import? Any other suggestions? /Jens Quote

OldSmurf56 Posted April 19, 2019 #7 Posted April 19, 2019 (edited) Thank you so much @rgarjr , that was so much more than I could hope for Much appreciated ... I'll get working on right away Got a bit further already .. now it's complaining about memory (allocated 8GB to host and 4GB to guest); I'll try and increase the availably memory on my Xpenology host. I am a bit worried though that it might be due to the host running DSM 6.1.6-15266 Update 1. I am working on it Edited April 19, 2019 by OldSmurf56 Quote
Bobwin Posted March 31, 2022 #8 Posted March 31, 2022 @rgarjr I know this is an old post, but do you know a way to change the serial number? Changing the serial is the only way to install a second instance. TIA Quote
Peter Suh Posted June 2, 2024 #9 Posted June 2, 2024 Now it is possible. Use img or vmdk files for redpill. 1. Add it to the disk image of VMM in advance. 2. When creating a virtual machine, select the Create->Import menu and select “Import from disk images”. 3. A list of disk images for selection appears. The capacity is fixed at 10GB and cannot be changed. 4. Be sure to change the disk type to SATA. Other settings are the same as existing virtual machine settings. Quote
