Hello, how are you?

I installed xpenology on a buffalo terastation 7120r server (http://www.buffalotech.com/products/terastation-7000-series)

but I'm not able to activate 8 of the 12 disks that are possible to install, I noticed that it has a mini-sas controller built in, which I believe to be from marvell, but even installing the additional drivers the disks are not identified, of the hardware would be USI (http://www.usish.com/english/products_NAS_2U12.php)
, has anyone used this equipment yet?

Thank you very much

I think its made in China by USI, but re-badged to Terastation?

I'd imagine there should be a boot option to access the disk controller bios and set that up. Probably set to raid and needs to be jbod/IT/Passthrough. Found a manual, page 32 might give a pointer:)

TS-7120R-35012398-03_EN.pdf

In the manual raid configuration, it is done through buffalo software, which I am not using anymore, the problem is that it seems that xpenology does not have the motherboard's onboard SAS controller driver, I'm trying to find out which controller is sas this board mae owns, but I do not find any documents on the internet.

You could try using a ubuntu live cd and check out what modules are being loaded for the sas controller. This will tell you what modules you need.

easyest way would be to install dsm one one (all) disk that work (so need to create a raid yet) and if dsm boots up you can check the log whats with the other controller(s)

as stated in the driver request, the 88SE9125 is supported as ahci in kernel 3.10.102 (used for dsm 6.1.x) and nor extra driver is needed

please do a "lspci -k | grep 'Kernel driver'" when started with a live linux, maybe there is more hardware and the 88SE9125 is not the one you are missing

I believe that it is necessary to mvsas the most, funny that he is in the modules added.

mvsas is not loaded in dsm (might be a mervell 88SE94XX)

beside checking  /var/log/dmesg for mvsas entrys you could just try to load it with insmod

 insmod /lib/modules/update/mvsas.ko

after that check with lspci -k that the module is loaded and the log

maybe there is something wrong with the module

please do a normal lspci and post the part where we can se the id's, maybe its a newer chip not supported by tha kenrnel module of kernel 3.10.102, with the id i can check the source

what is unusual is that there is a mvsas.ko in /lib/modules it should be in /lib/modules/update

thats our unknown/not detected controller a Marvell 88SE9485

but 9485 is in the source of mvsas

try unload driver with rmmod and load it with insmod, see /var/log messages if there is something about the loading then

moded the kernel source and made a new mvsas.ko

try this extra.lzma testversion if it detects your controller

Thank you again, but I still have not recognized the discs.

I think the 1b4b:9235 class 0000 device is another 4 port marvell sata controller  -  might there be some testing/work to sort out 3 controllers (4+4+8?) sataportmap settings maybe or adjust drives to 16?

Also, I spotted this page about the sas driver not binding, not my area of expertise, but maybe it gives a hint?

https://github.com/ArchAssault-Project/archassault/blob/master/packages/linux-archassault/mvsas-Recognise-device-subsystem-9485-9485-as-88SE94.patch

Also, I wonder if it may be worth disabling spare devices (second serial port, additional USB etc) in case there are resource conflicts between devices, maybe the XPE/DSM driver/module wont load in 'shared' space?

I'm using several mvsas driven (supermicro AOC) cards with 5.2 and 6 (with @IG-88 enhanced extra.lzma) and they work fine - maybe try 5.2 just as a test/diagnostic?

class 00 is unclassified device, 01 would be storage also 88SE92xx would be a AHCI chip

in the live linux boot screen there is a mvsas device and thats the one missing in dsm, so i guess the ports missing are indeed the 88se9485

the patch i mentioned above and used for the test was accepted by kernel.org to cope with the 9485 detection but was for a actual kernel, might not work properly

i had a peek in the last 3.16 mvsas driver from kernel.org, mod looks like the one sbv3000 linked, so i did a new one

still nothing, I'm out of luck, I think I'll buy a LSI SATA controller.

date of the file does not match, its a old one, the new one in extra.lzma is from today

delete mvsas.ko in /lib/modules and /lib/modules/update and reboot

mvsas.ko should reappear from the extra.lzma on boot media

I unzipped the extra.lzma file and via scp I sent the file mvsas.ko into the folder / lib / modules / update then removed and added the module again and now recognized all the disks !!!

When I reboot the old mvsas module, I'm not adding the extra.lzma correctly to my usb pendrive?

Update: I deleted the pendrive with a low level formatting program, I recorded the image again in it, and now it worked correctly, it found all the disks !!!!

IG-88,  would like to thank you very much for your help !!!! Thank you very much !!! I am very happy !!!!! excellent job !!!!
