SandLake Posted November 6, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2017 Now that I have built a backup Xpenology NAS I realise that I used the wrong MAC address - I copied the MAC address from my main NAS - how can I find out the real MAC address of the NIC in my backup Xpenology NAS? DSM/Info Center/Network just tells me the one I told it to use. Thanks
sbv3000 Posted November 6, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2017 The MAC address might be on a label on the board, but if you can't access that you could either boot with a live ubuntu disk and check your router dhcp (your raid/dsm should be safe, another option, depending on your bios/nic options is to turn on the 'lan boot' option, that generally shows the nic card details when its doing the arp/dhcp/tftp (or whatever magic) to find a boot server source
SandLake Posted November 8, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted November 8, 2017 Thanks, I had tried various 'live' utilities but they all reported the wrong MAC address - as you say Ubuntu live did the trick
