Synology Hybrid Raid (SHR)

Question

Posted

I'm just getting started on my own bare metal installation but I have been running several true Synology systems for years.  First things I noticed was the lack of SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid) as an option.  Is this a hardware limitation or something else?

Synology have removed SHR support from their high end units i.e. the DS3615xs. It can however be enabled if you want to use it by editing synoinfo.conf which is located in /etc.defaults/synoinfo. conf

comment out / delete

supportraidgroup="yes"

then add

support_syno_hybrid_raid ="yes"

Thanks, do you know Synology's stance on supporting it in the future?  I use RAID 5 for my important things but I like the flexibility on my backup / replication system because it contains all of my older drives - It is where my drives go to die.. ;)

This has been discussed to a point I wonder how people can't even find it. In any case this is not a tutorial so it will remain in the question section where it belongs.

The forum has just been re-structured. We have still a lot to do and subjects like these will be brought to members attention on a more efficient manner. Be patient. :27_sunglasses:
