Hi there - I’ve just had a DS918+ fail and I’m hoping to be able to recover my data using xpenology.

if its just the content of the disks then there is no problem, synology uses software raid (mdadm + lvm2) these are standard tools on linux

you could (more or less) use any pc hardware with sata ports, connect the disks and start a live/rescue linux to mount the raid and access your data

its also possible to use a usb drive with a loader like arc and install dsm as "xpenology", either as 918+ or something different, dsm can do cross upgrade to different hardware models and keep the data (1622 is kind of nice with the loader)

its also possible to install openmediavault (omv) to a disk or usb drive (i'd choose disk) and after its ready just connect the disks from the 918+ system, there might be some steps to change volume label but after that omv would be able to mount the dsm created raid set automatically

i wrote about that here but maybe the stel for changing the label is not needed anymore with omv
