cseb did test 3 versions of the driver from the extrenal source and all crashed when loaded on a sysem with a HP 410 controller
so no hpsa driver for now as the original from the kernel 3.10.102 does not detect disks and the one from "sourceforge.net/projects/cciss/" did not work with the synology modifyed kernel

anyone there to test the tigon3 driver?

hi,

to address the problem with the sata and pata modules i have compiled this modules from a vanilla 3.10.102 kernel, without the hardware present the modules load on a dsm 6.1.3 vm but that does'nt mean they will work at all, with the hardware present they might fail, oops or worse

modules in question:

sata_nv.ko
sata_sil.ko
sata_via.ko
sata_promise.ko
sata_sx4.ko

pata_amd.ko
pata_jmicron.ko
pata_marevell.ko
pata_via.ko
pata_sil680
pata_oldpiix.ko
pata_sch.ko
pata_mpiix.ko
pata_serverworks.ko

any volunteers (guinea pig's!!!) with test hardware without data on disk(s) (or willing to do a test with additional usb stick and empty disk on a running system)?

i would pm you a link with a extra.lzma containing the modules

well at least the driver from external source did not crash with the p420, but not detecting any drives doesnt help much

so its still the same and final, no hpsa support for 6.1 as long as anyone comes up with a solution (i cant see any atm)

it will be removed in the next version

at least the new tigon3 driver seem to work better then before

I am using HP N54L with HP SmartArray P410.

I tried to upgrade from 5.2 to 6.1.3 with bootlader 1.02b and v.3 that download at the page1.

That's good to detect the drive finally, but it prompts fail to format drive(error 35) as below.

Hope can help.

Thanks

did you read the thread here about hpsa.ko?

both option (kernel and external driver) do not work so no my statemant two posts above is still valid, no hp smart array driver support as long as nobody proofs that he has found a way (working driver)

only way might be to use esxi as base (dsm in vm)  and use raid5 volume over all disks as vmfs datastore (using hardware raid) and in dsm basic volume (vmdk file)

or keep disks (single disk as single raid volume in hp controller) and in esxi hand them over as rdm to dsm vm

in both scenarios you use the hp sa driver of esxi and dsm does only need existing drivers

Still have chance to make it work?

N54L just too weak for working with esxi...

no, like NO

if you want dsm 6.1 and esxi is no option then only a different controller is your way, used lsi's (reflashed to it-mode) or new marvell (syba brand?) seem to be used often, just search the forum there are some people who ditched there hp sa controllers to use dsm 6.1 (like cseb)

PS: maybe when dsm 6.2 next year comes out with kernel 4.4 and if the hp sa driver from that kernel works? but there are new protections in the dsm 6.2 beta, so might not happen, who knows

just to report, v3 drivers in the first post worked well for my nvidia ION chipset atom motherboard.

i guess its about nic working and if its disk then its AHCI (native like nForce MCP65 , MCP67, MCP68, MCP72, MCP73, MCP77, MCP78, MCP79, MCP7A, MCP82, MCP89 and later) as the sata_nv driver does not work

you can check with

lsmod -k

@IG-88

Using a Dell PowerEdge 2900 III. Has Dual embedded Broadcom NetXtreme II 5708 Gigabit Ethernet NICs. Using Jun 1.02b loader the boot seems ok but cannot find NAS with http://find.synology.com or the downloadable synology assistant. Furthermore I don't see those NIC's MACs on network when doing a scan. And, they don't get IPs from DHCP server. Guessing the NICs are not compatible with this loader. Do any of your ramdisk mods or other mods support this NIC maybe? I couldn't find anything explicitly saying so.

did you try to insert my extra.lzma (v3.2)? you dont write that you have tryed

atm you will have to serch the web what kernel module is needed in linux for a certain hardware and compare with the files in the extra.lzma to be shure

i will extend the doc for my extra.lzma with this information next time to make it easyer

there are missing firmware files in jun's loader as tere are 2 major different versions of cards going under the bnx2.ko driver

for other people that was working (i did not replaced the driver jun provides with his loader - no need for now)

in my descrition on the beging of this thread its this

firmware

bnx2/bnx2-mips-06-6.2.3.fw

bnx2/bnx2-mips-09-6.2.1b.fw

source where we discussed it:

just a quick note

two people tested the vanilla kernel driver in dsm 6.1 with real hardware controller and in both cases it did not work

in one case i got a log and the driver just crashed and oops'ed

so no pata_* and sata_* drivers for now as long as someone with coder skills looks into the synology modded kernel 3.10.102 #15152 and delivers a diff file to fix it

I managed to get it to work with this version 3.2, I don't know why I thought I had an old version (3, maybe) and couldn't find 3.2. The system can use the cards now, but at first one port was only connecting at 100M speed but couldn't do 1000M. Since the other port was doing 1000M figured it can't be a driver issue and after fiddling with it and rebooting a bunch it started working stably at 1000M on both ports.

All seems good now! Thank you.
