leonjehae Posted December 1, 2013 #126 Posted December 1, 2013 Thnx, here the same now but has modded the Bios for it while on DSM4,2 it also worked without modding? How many Drives you use? DSM isn't recognize my fifth drive anymore (In DVD-bay) Leon I got 5 disks (each 4TB), listed as Disk 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 in System Information under Storage. 4 disks in the "hot-plug able" bays and one disk in the DVD bay. The disk in the DVD bay is connected to the internal SATA port. Quote
MarsManden Posted December 1, 2013 #127 Posted December 1, 2013 So I currently have a HP N54L up and running with DSM 4.2. Now I see that you guys have made 4.3 possible, can I install it on my N54L without a problem? How do I go ahead and perform the upgrade? Will all my files and settings remain intact? What exactly do I gain by upgrading to 4.3? You haven't read this thread from the beginning, have you? Please do. You'll see that ALL your settings will be lost, but your data should be intact (mine was). The upgrade procedure is more or less the same as if you install from scratch. Whats new from 4.2 to 4.3: http://www.synology.com/en-global/releaseNote/model/DS3612xs Quote
fl0w Posted December 1, 2013 #128 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi, I tried to update my ESXi virtual machine running DSM 4.2-3202 but I got error 21, any idea? Thanks! Quote

Username9876 Posted December 3, 2013 #131 Posted December 3, 2013 In 4.2 I could use the debug tool command (syno_hibernate_debug_tool --enable 10) to track when my HDDs woke up from hibernation by looking in the /var/log/messages file. In 4.3, that tool doesn't seem to show the HDDs ever waking up, while the hibernation logs (both in the system logs accessible through the web interface and in the /var/log/scemd.log file) show the HDDs waking up at various times. Does the hibernation debug tool no longer work with 4.3? Thanks in advance. Quote
nols Posted December 3, 2013 #132 Posted December 3, 2013 I have an Gigabyte G33-DS2R and the 4x ICH9R Sata Ports works fine with 2x 1.5TB Seagate HDDs. Problem, I have 4x 500GB Sata HDD and when I connect to the Sata Ports: ICH9R: 4x 500GB HDD JMicron: 2x 1,5TB HDD I boot and it works fine. I create the two volumes and after 10min, I cant ping the XPEnology. The System is up, but it doesnt recognize. I can reset, power off, power on and max 10min the system is up. With only 2x 1,5TB it works fine. Hope somebody help. My Promise SuperTrak Raid Controller doesnt work. Quote
vlaves Posted December 4, 2013 #133 Posted December 4, 2013 I have just one question. Will this Build work on an 32 Bit PC or do I need an 64 Bit PC? Thanks for your support. Regards Vlaves Quote
dyonissos Posted December 4, 2013 #134 Posted December 4, 2013 Trying to install xpenology 4.3 on an HP gen8 microserver, on the internal SD card, no HDD installed. The image boots fine, i can see it detects the SD card, but cannot install. The Web Assistant says "No Hard Disk found" and the DS assistant says Server Error (Error code:38). Any ideas? Thanks, Quote

The Web Assistant says "No Hard Disk found" and the DS assistant says Server Error (Error code:38). Any ideas? Thanks, Duh! You should wait for the next DSM release. Its promised to be able to detect disconnected drives, sitting on the shelf, or even ordered online and shipped, but not yet delivered and install on them. But if you cannot wait that long, RTFM. dyonissos Posted December 4, 2013 #136 Posted December 4, 2013 Excuse my ignorance, but let me rephrase. Can i install Xpenology on the SD card? A simple yes/no, please Quote
XPEH Posted December 4, 2013 #137 Posted December 4, 2013 No. SD or USB is for initial booting only. Main OS is installed on the hard drives (all of them for redundancy) Quote
dyonissos Posted December 4, 2013 #138 Posted December 4, 2013 Got that part, i booted from an external USB thumbdrive, but i thought the OS can be loaded on the internal SD card (like ESXi for example). If that's not possible, i'll have to find some HDDs. Thanks! Quote
fonix232 Posted December 5, 2013 #139 Posted December 5, 2013 Got that part, i booted from an external USB thumbdrive, but i thought the OS can be loaded on the internal SD card (like ESXi for example). If that's not possible, i'll have to find some HDDs. Thanks! How do you want to use XPE if you don't have any HDDs connected? Seriously, it is a NAS - Network Attached Storage - OS, not a simple Linux install! It is DESIGNED for handling hard drives and volumes. Besides, as it was said, it installs to every hard drive that is detected as an internal one, the following way: 1. Synology erases the drive completely 2. The drive gets initialized the following way: |MBR|Synoboot partition|Partition for system, 2GB|Space ready to be added to a volume| 3. The system partition is then added to a RAID array, making it completely secure (so no matter how many hard drives you remove, if one original drive stays in, it can still boot). If you want to have a system running off of an SD card, try any kind of Linux distro. Debian, CentOS, OpenSUSE, all have the functionality of Synology, but are more open and flexible. Quote
dyonissos Posted December 5, 2013 #140 Posted December 5, 2013 I got it - the microsd card is seen as an external drive, and DSM cannot be installed on external disks. I'm upgrading from an USB Station 2 with 2 external drives. I hoped i can use a similar setup with the new gen8 until i get some new drives. Thanks! Quote
Al-T Posted December 5, 2013 #141 Posted December 5, 2013 To put it in lame terms: All SD, microSD, USB or CF cards are recognized as REMOVABLE devices by BIOS. XPEnology will not install on removable device, it is looking for the permanently attached device marker. Quote

Since you are one of the best Xpenology specialist as far as i can see, i ask you directly if i may. Done everything as it supposed to (in synology SHA manual) but everytime when i connect the heartbeatcable both (N54L) become inaccessable. Both systems have the same (intel pro1000) Nic's, same harddisks on same slots,Ipv6 is disabled just like DHCP and PPPoe is not connected.(cannot find where to disable that)......... Do you have any suggestions? (Of course i use different serial numbers and the real hardware macaddresses of al the 4 NIC's.(edited in the vender file) Best regards, Leon Quote
