do i dare try an in place upgrade of your 4.2 ds3612xs build?

This is not an official synology product, it's only design for testing purpose not for production.

If you like Synology products, buy them.

So before doing anything, make backup.

No warranty for any damages, loss of data or anything else.

I tired that...using manual update and trying to upload .pat file from Trantor's 4.3 build....it fails and generates error code 21...

I am still just testing xpenology adn trying to build a setup.......while keeping my existing NAS intact...

One thing I didn't catch how some people achieved the upgrade from 4.2 keeping their data safe as I I don't see any option for upgrades...only way I see is to reformat and install 4.3 on hard drive connected to Sata 0 port...Am I missing something here ?? Though I plan to use a small SSD for Xpeno OS only....but I would still like to know how people have upgraded from 4.2 to 4,3 while keeping their data...Thanks.

The proper way to do is the following (loss of apps, settings, etc., inevitable, unfortunately, but you can possibly make a backup):

1. Take your boot USB key, and write the new 3810 img on it.

2. Boot your NAS from said USB key

3. Use Synology Assistant from another computer to find the NAS booted from the USB key

4. Open the web interface by right-clicking the found entry

5. Follow the steps described. It won't reboot, but it will load the login page with the new details.

6. Sit happy and clap your hands that you just erased all your settings, etc.

Can I please ask how you upgraded from 4.2, did you just update with pat file from update screen manually or flash new usb drive and then migrate with Synology assistant and add pat from there. I am assuming the later as I have migrated before from factory Synology NAS and it worked without problem.

I wont hold anyone accountable for data loss just if you have working way to upgrade be nice if someone could share Thanks in advance this awesome forum
