sbv3000 Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2017 I think that Intel based cards seem to be well supported and stable. You can find 2 and 4 port ones on ebay cheap! You will need to follow carefully the grub.cfg settings to enable multiple nics, mac addresses etc
randall8686 Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 30, 2017 thanks for the info, Is there a guide to what i need to do to the grub file then ? Bit of a noob to this. Was hoping it might be plug and play.
sbv3000 Posted June 30, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2017 have a look at Everything you need to setup DSM6.0.2 is here by Polanskiman, with plenty of other advice as people have installed/upgraded. Once you are ok with the process then you can try 6.1 etc
randall8686 Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted June 30, 2017 cheers mate will take a look when i get home. I have the system up an running fine just want to add a NIC so i can run a VM, can i not just create a virtual switch and run a VM from this just like VMware ? sbv3000 Posted June 30, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 30, 2017 Some more info about your setup could help decide and get advice If you are running a hypervisor on the bare metal Thinkserver then adding any compatible card for that should allow you to do what you need, allocating a vswitch/nic to your virtual XPE/DSM. The same is true if you are running XPE/DSM and that as a hypervisor, but your nic would have to be compatible and edit the grub etc if you want more ports on the DSM install

Not sure if this is what your trying but if you are trying a IOMMU or Direct Pass thru ESXI (to your NAS xpenology VM) you need to make sure your hardware / motherboard supports that. randall8686 Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted June 30, 2017 No I want to Run a VM within xpenology but it says i only have 1 NIC

sbv3000 Posted June 30, 2017 Share #13 Posted June 30, 2017 whatever way you go (bare metal running a hypervisor with virtual XPE/DSM) or one of the DSM hypervisor options, grab a minimum two port intel nic and configure that, should be most compatible
randall8686 Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted June 30, 2017 OK cheers guys going on the hunt for a NIC, loads of 4 ports on ebay for £30 or a brand new two port for £

sbv3000 Posted July 7, 2017 Share #20 Posted July 7, 2017 Try disabling the on-board nic (giving 4 nics). or grub settings to nif=5 and 5 matching mac addresses
Terabyte Posted July 7, 2017 Share #21 Posted July 7, 2017 May I ask why the Lan 4 subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0?
