Tutorial: Install/Migrate DSM 5.2 to 6.0.2 (Jun's loader)

To everyone:

I recommend not to update to update 9. Some people are experiencing issues. A hard reboot may fix the problem in some instances but this does not seem to fix the issue for everyone, so stay on update 8 until further notice. Tutorial has been updated accordingly.

Too late for me,wont come up again not even after reboot.

With me i think the problem is the nic doesn't work anymore after the update

Will set it up again from scratch.

Running on amd bare metal.

Can you try booting and selecting the AMD install entry line?

This option worked for me. I tried various reboots after updating to 9. My machine would not come up again. I selected the AMD option and I'm good again. (I'm on Intel hardware)

I folowed the installation. Did a migration from 5.2. Loaded the new pat-file.

NAS is booting

Now my NAS ask for user and pw.

My old Account information is not working anymore.

Also admin with empty pw is not working.

Also the NAS resets its IP-adress

My drivemapping is still working.

Did i something wrong.

Trying again, in hope of someone will respond.

My setup:

....

Running:

ESXi 6.5 build 4564106

DSM 5.2-5644 Update 5

I can not recomment to use esxi6.5 on the Gen8 box. The B120i driver is buggy again, but no chance to downgrade to .88 version. Go with 6.0 and you will be fine. Don't forget to downgrade the vsa driver to version .88.

Update to V9 was flawlessly on 6.0.

ESXi 6.5 seems to work fine for me, used the HPE ISO file. Upgraded without any issues. Using the latest HPE Support package installed of course.

The B120i RAID controller, uses this driver in ESXi: hpvsa, version 5.5.0.102.

Again, this does not answer my main question: how to upgrade to DSM 6.x?

Hi!

The other day tried to install (update) my NAS to version 6.0.2.

But while loading and selecting the Force Install.

The Assistant not see the NAS.

You mentioned before that it is possible, when there is no network card drivers.

And offer to write a letter with a request to add the drivers ...

Please add to the kernel at boot time drivers for the network card:

1. - PCIE Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000 Mb/s

- Atheros® AR8151

2. tp-link TF-3239DL

- Realtek RTL8139DI

I would be very happy, if all turn out and a new boot loader can be downloaded in the near future.

Thank you for previously, tajson ...

Thanks for the guide Polankisman, I have a baremetal install on my n54l.

I have an old broken DS411j and want to change the SN/MAC on XPE to get quickconnect and other apps to work. I tried reading different guides on here but can't work it out so would really appreciate some help with that please.

I know it's frowned upon but I have a genuine synology box which is not working.

Thanks

I think I once read that you should use a serial number and MAC address of an original Synology.

I don't think there is a DSM check on an existing/legit serialnumber. Is there?

Anyway, I just used the same serial as my previous XPEnology, DSM 5.2 installation. And updated the whole lot.

I welcome!

The same trouble, only with cards: Intel i210 and Realtek RTL8211E.

Too he would be grateful.

Sorry but I do not compile modules for others. Not sure where you read that. You will need to wait for a newer version to come out.

I wont answer any questions relating on how to rape Synology. Sorry.

Hey guys I'm not able to launch the grub bootloader. I'm on a HP N54L with DSM 5.2

I used different USB Sticks and all loader versions I could find. I filled in my grub.cfg VID/PID; MAC & SN and it does not work?

Do you have any other suggestions for me to update to DSM 6.xx ?

I don't know what "it does not work" means. Try being more precise about what your issue is. Try booting the usb in legacy mode instead of efi.

i210 is already included in the loader.

In the gub file change the following line:

initrd $img/ramdisk.lzma $img/$extra_initrd

To:

initrd $img/$extra_initrd $img/ramdisk.lzma

Then try installing again.

Thanks for taking time to answer my question. Is there an alternative way to access XPE remotely without QC?
