blindspot Posted February 1 #3 Posted February 1 Hi! From my personal pov this build is overkill. Considering the DSM 7.1 runs fine with 8GB of RAM, integrated CPU and GPU, your configuration is more than enough. Now, what do you want to do with this build? Some of us think about the costs involved running a home server 24/7 and chose other components. But running from a work place where electricity bill is not an issue this build offers a plenty of choices regarding usability. Quote
MCFLY78 Posted February 2 Author #4 Posted February 2 Hello, thank you for your response; I want to run Surveillance Station with 4 cameras, run several vms, and do 4k streaming of several streams at the same time. That's why I'm heading towards this kind of muscular configuration. On the other hand, I noticed that there was another way to run Xpenology, via different loaders or even virtualization ( TinyCore redpill for example ) Quote

shibby Posted February 22 #6 Posted February 22 (edited) Look at my signature - i have very similar config. IMO setup is not a overkill, but i suggest you install proxmox first and then xpenology as VM, passthrough Sata kontroler, nvme drives and igpu to the VM and install SA6400 (this is the only one firmware with nawet Kernel and newer Intel GPU drivers to support 13gen iGPU).
