Issues with IP Address Assignment and Internet Access for Virtual Machines in Synology Virtual Machine Manager

LastSkywalker

Question

Hello,

I’m encountering issues configuring virtual machines in Synology Virtual Machine Manager (DSM 7.2) with Arc Loader 1.1.0. The virtual machines are not receiving IP addresses from the DHCP server and lack internet access.

Configuration:

• Synology NAS running DSM 7.2

• Virtual machines created via Virtual Machine Manager

• DHCP server configured on a TP-Link MR600 router, successfully assigning IP addresses to other devices

• Firewall is disabled

• Using Arc Loader version 1.1.0

Issue:

• Virtual machines detect the network interface enp3s0 with a MAC address assigned by the host but do not obtain an IP address or internet connectivity

• Installing Synology Guest Tool is not feasible due to the lack of internet access within the guest system

Steps Taken:

1. Configured Virtual Switch:

• Created an external virtual switch linked to the LAN1 interface, which has internet access

• Connected virtual machines to this switch

2. Checked Virtual Machine Network Settings:

• Network adapters are set to obtain IP addresses via DHCP

• Tested with adapter types e1000 and others

3. Verified DHCP Settings:

• Confirmed that the IP address pool on the router is not exhausted

• Other devices on the network receive IP addresses without issues

4. Performed Network Diagnostics within Virtual Machines:

• Executed ipconfig /renew (Windows) and dhclient (Linux) commands without success

• The command ip link show displays the interface enp3s0 with a MAC address assigned by the host

Question:

What additional steps or configurations can I undertake to enable the virtual machines to receive IP addresses from the DHCP server and gain internet access? I would appreciate any assistance or suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

Does your box have fixed IP? IF so, setup a fixed IP to your VM. I'm becoming out of ideas. I had a VM (virtualbox) that never get a IP from DHCP, but I setup fixed IP and it started to see the network. I'm using a VM o my box (SA6400) with m-shell and I never tested with DHCP setup. It always had a fixed IP.

All devices in my network have static IP addresses. I also have virtual machines on VMware on another computer, which receive IP addresses in the local network without any issues from the DHCP server of my router. The host computer with XPenology installed has a static IP. However, the virtual machines in VM Manager do not receive any IP addresses at all; they are not even visible to my router. It’s as if no route is being established for them beyond the VM Manager.
