Salah Posted April 1, 2017 Author #4 Posted April 1, 2017 "Please be informed that piracy is not tolerated in the forum. The use of Quickconnect IS an abuse of Synology's services." Forum Mod. who doesn't seem to get GNU. Quote
Salah Posted April 1, 2017 Author #5 Posted April 1, 2017 Be aware that this is an Issue: Using any thing in TOS or UELA is a problem. Yes we can hack away but in reality Synology can hack back Quote
Salah Posted April 1, 2017 Author #6 Posted April 1, 2017 Right now anything quikconnect is dead. DON'T TRY TO USE IT! DOCKER is included Quote
bglf83 Posted April 1, 2017 #7 Posted April 1, 2017 I use docker. It seems fine. Is this for all versions? Quote
Hostilian Posted April 1, 2017 #9 Posted April 1, 2017 Of course they can hack back but using Quickconnect with a fake Synology is especially bloody stupid.. Most people use their NAS with the loaders and it happily sits and works without ever contacting the Internet (and definitely not Synology and using their services).. When you use Quickconnect, you are effectively TELLING SYNOLOGY that there are boxes out there with dodgy serial numbers and mac addresses. They'll run a little Quickconnect report that will tell them exactly which boxes are legit or not.. With such a report, they are going to want to do something about it. This is only the start of their fightback.. If you're daft enough to try to use Quickconnect, you could very well kill off this project - maybe even this website.. Nice work... Quote
MGD9000 Posted April 1, 2017 #10 Posted April 1, 2017 (edited) I disabled my Quickconnect.. didn't Know it could be a problem. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk Edited April 1, 2017 by Guest Quote

They obivously know about this project as it has been running for years. Since they haven't done anything to prevent "fake" serials to use their services, I guess that the percentage of such users is so low that they simply don't care. Quote
Elpee Posted April 1, 2017 #12 Posted April 1, 2017 Why do you guys keep bringing up and chewing this old topic? We don't use QC and our XPEnology community never recommend/ encourage QC usage either. We should end this boring topic here. Period. Quote
Bonebreaker777 Posted April 1, 2017 #13 Posted April 1, 2017 So, what would happen to me as a XPEnology user if I would go and buy a Synology product purely for the MAC and SN so I would have the option to use QC? Would it downgrade my current machine status from 'DS3615xs' to whatever the bought SN would belong to or...? Downgrade as in terms of number of HDD places, etc. While I'm here, under what I could find a MAC address change manual or tutorial here? MAC address chance as changing it permanently. Thank you! Salah Posted April 2, 2017 Author #15 Posted April 2, 2017 And you are "misinformed" if you think that syno dont call home for updates Quote
bglf83 Posted April 2, 2017 #16 Posted April 2, 2017 Why not just either pay for or use a DDNS service? I do this and have no issues. 1 Quote
Salah Posted April 2, 2017 Author #18 Posted April 2, 2017 Point is they are now looking at this project and are tagging boxen Quote
Salah Posted April 2, 2017 Author #19 Posted April 2, 2017 Also I would bet that no dev or mod has protected you against "every day ssh" password Quote
chege Posted April 2, 2017 #20 Posted April 2, 2017 And what is the point to send so many single line posts? Quote
billat29 Posted April 2, 2017 #21 Posted April 2, 2017 Just to add to the general paranoia : While I was testing a DNS server on my network (and looking at the logs), I found that my box - which has quickconnect off - contacted account.synology.com and another url (I forget) which retrieved my external IP. So they probably have a better idea of how many people are running XPEnology than anyone here Quote
