cayou2000 Posted October 31 Share #1 Posted October 31 Hi, I plan to buy a cheap RS3412XS that is locked to DSM 6.2.4. I wonder if it is possible to trick the nas to make him believe it is a RS3617xs that support DSM 7.2.2. Both are on bromolow architecture (https://github.com/SynoCommunity/spksrc/wiki/Architecture-per-Synology-model) - Intel Core i3-2100 sandy bridge for the RS3412xs (i plan to replace it with a Intel® Xeon® E3-1260L) - Intel® Xeon® E3-1230 v2 ivi bridge for the RS3617xs Both have 4 GB ethernet port. I used to installed xpenology on non synology hardware but here it is more tricky to install another firmware on a Synology hardware. I saw this page https://www.tumfatig.net/2014/dsm-5-on-synology-ds409slim/ that change the model name in /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf on a DS409slim to DS411 to update to dsm5.0. I wonder if the same can be possible and if additionnal modification is necessary on the RS3412XS. on the other hand, is there is a way to do not modify the Synology ROM and to boot on usb to use an external backup ROM?
