Upgrade from DSM 4.3-3827 Update 8 ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been searching for some time, to find a "safe path" to update my 2 oldest boxes,

(HP-N54L) who is currently running as DS3612xs with DSM 4.3-3827 Update 8.

Current uptime was just passing 400 days today (after a power-outage), so they have been rock solid stable.

In addition to these, I have had a "spare" N54L and a G8, running ESXi with some virtual DSM machines.

Now, I jut got a "pre-owned" N40L, and I have been playing around with DSM 5x and 6x,

before I decided to stay with DSM 5.2-5967 Update 2.

Now, my BIG question is:

how can I safely upgrade my 4.3 boxes to 5.2, without loosing my data?

I did exactly the same thing a few months ago. I updated to DSM 5.0-4493 then went to 5.2-5592. I didn't loose any data or settings but I did have a backup of both just in case.

You can find the relevant boot images here: http://xpenology.me/downloads/

@Dfds: did you just make a new USB boot device, and updated/migrated with the .pat ?

Yes I did, but as I said I had previously backed up my data.

@Dfds: Thanks, I might do some "spring cleaning"

before backing up any important stuff and jump into the migrate process
