The good, the bad, the ugly...

Question

Posted (edited)

I purchased a synology, all good intentions. Kinda got dunked on by customer support after the thing went bad within 4 months. Decided to look for some solutions, found out I could use my serial and macs on xpeno to emulate my legit previously purchased hardware.

Been using it just fine on new microcenter purchased hardware with xpeno, no issues, everything, and I mean everything works perfectly quick connect, all of it. I'm quite content, it's running on a ryzen, and 64gb ram. Has legit purchased licenses for my cameras and all.

Now, I suppose I'm interested in getting a little ugly and greedy...

Is it possible to switch my model out from what I previously purchased legitly, with xpeno use my same serial and macs and still reap all my benefits on a more advanced model ? Use advanced media, quick connect and account and all?

I'd like to switch to one of the better models that supports nvme, more drives, etc.

Any recommendations? Should I stay bad, or move onto ugly?

If you mentioned exactly which Synology model you purchased, it would have been easier to determine a more specific direction.

I know that the model that officially supports NVMe as a volume started with DS923+.

But XPE is a bit more flexible.

You can add an unlimited number of disks, and NVMe can be added as a volume, not as a cache.

Sorry, I purchased a DS220+ I should have mentioned that.

I really want the features of the DVA3221 , I really would like to see , and use the AI Deep Learning features to help clean up some of the excessive movement detection false positives on my unit.

Are there any other features I am missing out on my 220+ ?

If you want all the features of the DVA3221 to work, forget about the genuine SN and MAC of the DS220+.

Since the SN system is different between the two models, if you want the surveillance function of the DVA3221 to work properly on XPE,

I recommend using the SN that the XPE loader randomly generates.

However, in this case, the migration from the DS220+ to the DVA3221 will be performed, and all data will be safely transferred.
It's not a bad idea to back up your existing data just in case.

I don't really want to use Proxmox if I don't have to, Will I be able to install DVA3221 on bare metal ?

Is it possible to just install the applications used on the DVA on my 220+ and use the CPU ? I have a few graphics cards at my disposal , and the CPU has integrated graphics , as it is the AMD Ryzen 5 5500GT

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Superclocked-Graphic-02G-P4-2962-KR/dp/B00T4BWGBM"

I have both of these available to use on the system.

The GPU that operates for surveillance in DVA3221 is limited to GTX 1650.

You cannot use any GPU.

I can't guarantee that DVA3221 will work as a surveillance device in AMD systems.

For more details, I think it would be better to check whether it can work with AMD CPU in the DVA3221 topic.

If you expect to run AI features, the DVA1622 with its Intel UHD 600 is quite limited

Unless you want to run it with only one camera, you should consider DVA3221 with an NVidia GPU card. (but as already said, you need to find a compatible)

Which Nvidia model will yield least problematic results?

How likely will we see loaders support different cards? Like proxmox ID masking
