How to upgrade/install on new Workstation - Bare metal Dell Optiplex 7050

Question

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm dealing with a situation and I'm not really sure how I should proceed, so any help would be very much appreciated.

Current setup (old workstation with i3 3rd gen from Lenovo, 8GB Ram):

- DSM version - DSM 6.1-15047 (DS3615xs);

- 1TB HDD - used for misc downloads and file transfers;

- 7TB HDD - main HDD used for backing up all my photos.

Due to the old gen CPU I've noticed Plex being slow when it comes to encoding or even failing when trying to play 4K videos.

Therefore I've recently purchased a Dell workstation with these specs:

- Core i5 7th Gen;

- 8GB RAM;

- 256 SSD.

This is what I am trying to achieve on the new Workstation, while combining the HDDs from the old one(and have absolutely no idea how to do it):

- Install DSM 7.2.1 69057 (I've read the topic regarding the new bootloader and I think I got the hang of it, so no issues here);

- Move both 1TB + 7 TB HDD to this new unit while maintaining the files and not losing anything; Keeping the folders configured as they are now and having the files ready for Photo Station (Memories) once inserted and configured;

- Not sure if I should keep the SSD, would it help at all (I doubt there's space inside the unit to actually keep it, but if there's an advantage I can do by best).

What do you say, is there any way that I can achieve the above, thus having a new NAS with betters specs but same files? :)

I think it would be better to proceed with the scenario you envision.

If you're not using an HBA (RAID SAS controller), I recommend the DS920+ model for migration from DS3615xs.

It supports hardware transcoding on Intel 7th generation. (For Plex, you need to purchase a subscription to enable HW transcoding.)

SSD works better for transcoding if you use it as a read cache on the RAID disk where the movie files are located.

I also have a 7050 (i5-7600). It is refusing to show DSM via any means (port 5000, Assistant, find.synology).
I don't know what to do to get this working.

What loader are you trying with?

Are you getting a ping response from the IP you know?

And what does the computer name look like when you detect this IP on your router?

Does it say "SynololgyNAS"?

Trying with Arc Loader. No device listed on router, no ping, nothing. It works with DVA1622 and also has working i915 including AI but id love to be able to use my Nvidia card in it.
