Onknight Posted July 2, 2024 #1 Posted July 2, 2024 I have always booted my XPEnology Nas from USB . But it got me thinking is it possible to boot from an SSD and how complicated is the process I built my second nest for testing and it allows my first Nest to just do what I want Host files I can afford to do some experimenting on my second Nas Athena Quote

0 Onknight Posted July 4, 2024 Author #3 Posted July 4, 2024 Unless you get a really small and drive like a 32 GB SSD I'm always working behind my servers and I'm always worried I'm going to break the boot Drive for working back there Quote

0 Trabalhador Anonimo Posted July 6, 2024 #5 Posted July 6, 2024 I think M-Shell loader can create an SSD for boot, but not sure. Quote
0 Peter Suh Posted July 7, 2024 #6 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) When using a regular SSD, I recommend using the smallest capacity to reduce space waste. For MSHELL, all current bootloaders only require 2GB of space. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805959587589.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.33.6f76Nnw3Nnw3wT&algo_pvid=9d33774d-08b6-4149-98d4-2a2a50ceb61d&algo_exp_id=9d33774d-08b6-4149-98d4-2a2a50ceb61d-16&pdp_npi=4%40dis!USD!15.86!14.91!!!115.00!108.10!%402140c5a717203166665821036ef4b4!12000035967110864!sea!US!899867316!&curPageLogUid=lKiIBDDHNPNV&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A Considering the durability of the bootloader, replacing USB with SataDOM is not a bad idea. In the case of SataDOM, if the VCC+ 5V power supply problem is properly controlled, it is good to use instead of Sata type SSD. Various capacities are available, starting from 1GB. https://www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-satadom.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.search.0 However, Redpill LKM applies this SataDOM and SSD so that it can be used as a bootloader, but it is not a fatal problem, but there are some bugs. You can record the bootloader on the SSD online by entering the menu below. You can download the latest version of mshell img released on GitHub online and record it directly on your desired USB / SSD / SadaDOM / M.2, etc. I recommend using the Burn Loader menu rather than the Clone Loader.
