I scoured the forums for the last 30min assuming this must have been asked, but I found nothing...probably using the wrong terminology.
But I am wanting to know if it's possible to have all of the user homes reside on a directory on the host and not in a vdisk or anything like that.
I am currently running the VirtualDSM docker on Unraid, and I was able to mount a share from Unraid into DSM using CIFS. I then setup a bind mount using;
mount -o bind /volume1/unraid_Mounts/Homes /volume1/homes
Initially I hit the ceiling thinking there's no way it was that easy, everything seemed to work perfectly. I even created a new user and their home directory was created without issue. That is until I went to setup Drive and thats when I realized that Drive wont index a bind mount. 🫠
After searching online I hear that this might be possible using XPEnology since it has the option of using Virtiofs.
Is this something that is possible? The single biggest reason I want to run DSM is to use Drive.
