unmesh Posted May 20, 2024 #1 Posted May 20, 2024 With VMware moving away from free ESXi after the Broadcom acquisition, I should migrate my DSM VMs to Proxmox. I have been able to successfully run DSM as a Proxmox machine on a small server with virtual drives whereas the tower server with my "production" DSM VMs uses RDM'ed hard drives. Proxmox has a migration wizard for ESXi VMs. Should I try to migrate the ESXi VMs to Proxmox on small server, install Proxmox on the tower server, move the Proxmox VMs back, map the hard drives to these VMs and expect things to work? Or should I install Proxmox on the tower server, create completely new VMs at the same software level and map the hard drives to these VMs? The DSM versions are 6.x and I fortunately do have backups of the data if things go south. I've also had the crazy idea of creating DSM 7 VMs in Proxmox and letting the software do a migration of the software sitting on the executable partitions!!! Quote
