baremetal vs proxmox

hi,
im going to build a nas with the topton n6005 board

and im wondering if it would be better to install xpenology with proxmox or on baremetal.
any suggestions here?

I think it´s better proxmox because you can install DSM and other systems (pfSense, OpenWrt, etc.) and managment all nics for each use.

Tout dépend des performances de la machine et du besoin.

Si tout est reconnu nativement, que la machine est peu performante et/ou que l'usage est exclusivement pour faire tourner Xpenology, j'aurai tendance à choisir baremetal.

 

Si le but est de pouvoir lancer d'autres machines virtuelles au besoin (tester un loader à côté de celui en prod) et/ou de pouvoir migrer facilement la VM vers du nouveau materiel, alors Proxmox est une bonne option.

 

Cependant cela implique de savoir utiliser et installer Proxmox, et devoir gérer les mises à jour de ce dernier.

thanks for your repsonses.
so in short.
if i only want to use dsm do it baremetal.
if i want to setup more vms do it proxmox.

sounds reasonable.

i will do some upgrade scenarios on baremetal and see if its not to much of a hassle

so installing dsm on baremetal did not work for me with the default trcp.
as the network cards was not recognized.
so i used the arc loader and this worked out of the box.

I think you should go baremetal first. DSM can do VM and also Docker.
