ad911 Posted October 30, 2013 Share #52 Posted October 30, 2013 This is the first beta for build v1.2a - Add USB to serial FTDI and Prolific chips - Update igb driver for intel I340/I350 support - Update e1000e, r8168 network driver - Add ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet driver - Add patched r8169 driver (removed r8168 support from it to prevent conflict) - Add firmware for r8169 (realtek) and tigon3 (broadcom) drivers - Built-in mp2sas and megaraid_sas drivers (instead of modules) - Add lot of virtualization options (hyper-v, vmware, virtio, xen, paravirtualization guest... vbox modules in the next beta) Link : Beta 1a available below As usual write img file to your usb stick andcopy modules files (*.ko) in /lib/modules/ Sorry I don't have enought time to repack a full build (pat + synoboot) neither to test it properly... I'm counting on you guys I hope adding firmware will finally fix the support of "strange" r8169 chip and broadcom BCM57788 chip I have tested with the beta1 and beta1a image files the results are the same, seems that the tg3 driver is not loaded
brimur Posted October 30, 2013 Share #53 Posted October 30, 2013 As part of my project described here I would like to request HP Smart Array P400 and HP Smart Array 6400 drivers and also ask that you include the network driver Broadcom NetXtreme II . Trantor Posted October 30, 2013 Author Share #54 Posted October 30, 2013 Can anyone add HP P410 RAID SAS controller? It's already supported by the built-in HPSA driver. I hope it's not to late for this evening repack, but can you also include this power off fix by darkest_star ? Maybe in the next beta (it will force me to upload pat file (~100MB) each time...). @ad911 and brimur : Hope beta2 finally fix broadcom issues Build v1.2a - beta 2 - Include patchs from jukolaut for PVSCSI support in ESXi. - Add Fusion MPT driver (see here for supported controller). - Update broadcom tg3 and bnx2 driver to the latest version. costib Posted October 31, 2013 Share #55 Posted October 31, 2013 I've used "synoboot-trantor-1.2a_beta2.img" and default/old(without new modules) "XPEnology_trantor_v1.2_DSM_DS3612xs_3211.pat" with ESX5.1. After first reboot there is Grub error 22, overwrite the synoboot vmdk and restart. Installation goes further this time, but there is a shutdown request at the end. Powering ON again, but the same shutdown occurs. Should I use the new modified pat file containing your last modules(because I have to recreate this again)? Here is the attached recorded behavior. Thanks.

Should I use the new modified pat file containing your last modules(because I have to recreate this again)? Yes this issue if often due to modules no corresponding in ramdrive / pat file. I will post full beta build this week end. synoboot-trantor-1.2a_beta2.img tested broadcom tg3 not functional However the tg3 and bnx2 module is loaded at boot, I check this by connecting directly on the xpenology console (no disk installed) and type lsmod. Can you please give more informations about your card and test with ubuntu live to see what is loaded (module/firmware/version) and post output of ethtool -i
Rand__ Posted October 31, 2013 Share #58 Posted October 31, 2013 So just tried beta2 with a new installation, 1. Test for use of PVSCSI Its not really working - initial installation is fine, then Grub Error 22 as expected, then no screen display at all after restart -> vm is running and at some point it shuts itself down. Then next boot the Grub Error is back. Next try i get screen -> Boot up then autoshutdown. My Vm seems to have some issues with displaying but i dont think its Syno related... 2. Test with IDE Installation as usual, Grub 22, replace vmdk, all well as expected. 2. Test with IDE - adding LSI2008 to running env -> Grub error 22 (but those drive had syno installed already so i have to reset them and check again). -> Drives reset, still Grub 22 (with replaced vmdk) 3. With new 2008 based drives Properly detected, no Grub 22 after boot-> cant unload bromolow_synobios device busy -> Autoshutdown -its loading all modules after installation like snmp and then it gets signal 15 and is shutting down. Last line before that is start Make FLV deamon; next boot last line is "check tdb"; next boot "Start Apache" ... looks like its making progress before rebooting:o Ok finally it went through to the login prompt and shut down, next boot thereafter it displayed the Grub error. I replaced the vmdk and it boots again till login prompt, shuts down, then grub22 -> loop 3. With new 106e based drives- (Next edit) Syno seems to find it (had issues with the drives, some are not seen by the 1068e?), Funny: lists "drives will be deleted: 1,1,1,2" As expected Grub 22, replaced vmdk, boots up fine... Interesting, since with the 2008 it didnt. (Difference between 2008/1068e drives -> the 2008 drives are SAS drives, the 1068e SATA) But the drives dont show up in GUI... DiskStation> lsmod |grep mpt DiskStation> DiskStation> modprobe mpt2sas.ko modprobe: chdir(3.2.30): No such file or directory
Trantor Posted October 31, 2013 Author Share #59 Posted October 31, 2013 DiskStation> lsmod |grep mpt DiskStation> DiskStation> modprobe mpt2sas.ko modprobe: chdir(3.2.30): No such file or directory These drivers are buit-in the kernel and not compil as module, this is why you can't find them (nor insmod). Auto shutdown issue is I think related to new compiled modules are not included in .pat file. (got this issue in the past with 4.1 build) I hope I will enought time this week end to test and post full beta build with updated pat file. Have you test your controllers on a bare metal computer instead of VM to see if XPEnology detect them ?
Rand__ Posted October 31, 2013 Share #60 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) No i havent, but looks like it detects them at least at installation time (it shows drives to install on); they are not present on run time though, which is kinda weird (edit: controllers/drives are there, see below) All drives get set up with Syno partition layout (I see it on a windows vm i pass the controllers to), so they do work at some point =>So the 1068e drives are there, just the partitions are not usable/ drives are not getting picked up for usage) cat /proc/partitions major minor #blocks name 8 0 32000 sda 8 1 16033 sda1 66 0 976762584 sdag 66 16 976762584 sdah 8 16 16777216 sdb 8 17 2490240 sdb1 8 18 2097152 sdb2 8 19 1 sdb3 8 21 12048720 sdb5 9 0 2490176 md0 9 1 2097088 md1 9 2 12047616 md2 253 0 12046336 dm-0 But parted /dev/sdag Error: Could not stat device /dev/sdag - No such file or directory. Retry/Cancel? And can syno even use SAS drives ? - never occurred to me that it maybe couldnt Edited October 31, 2013 by Guest

Rand__ Posted October 31, 2013 Share #62 Posted October 31, 2013 MSM (Megaraid storage manager) is only supported on red hat linux based system. No way to add it to XPEnology Actually the newer(?) versions of MSM seem to support RH and SLES, so maybe its not impossible;), just a bunch of prereqs which might not be on Syno... http://www.lsi.com/downloads/Public/MegaRAID%20Common%20Files/13.08.04.01_Linux(64)_MSM.tar.gz

Rand__ Posted November 1, 2013 Share #65 Posted November 1, 2013 Hey Trantor, can you add an iSCSI Initiatior to Synology? (maybe following this guide http://www.cuddletech.com/articles/iscsi/ar01s04.html); Target Support (exporting a Syno Drive to another computer) is already built in but not the other way round (mountig a drive in Syno via iScsi) - at least i havent seen it. Alternatively it might be possible to expand on the current iScsi implementation from Syno - no idea. current commands with iscsi : DiskStation> iscsi iscsi-iname iscsiadm iscsid iscsitrgtool So I'll try to use iscsiadm to find my Target and give feedback:) Maybe we should set up a poll for feature requests;) Thx
Trantor Posted November 1, 2013 Author Share #66 Posted November 1, 2013 Can anyone add TVii S660 DVB-S Driver! For now I'm focus on adding storage/network drivers and ESXi build/compatibility. @Rand__ : For iSCSI resquest see above. When you install DSM on your ESXi did you install it on "standard" drive and not directly on SAS / SCSI controller ? Because even on real machine for now, it's not possible to install dsm on such controller (tested with my LSI SAS 9211-4i). But instead install it on standard sata drive and then when DSM is installed I see drives attached to LSI SAS controller. Have you tried to follow jukolaut instructions viewtopic.php?f=2&t=558#p1128 ? And maybe try to mix his pat / synoboot with my beta. In the meantime I'm downloading ESXi 5.5 to run some test. Full beta build (pat and synoboot) is uploading ....

costib Posted November 1, 2013 Share #68 Posted November 1, 2013 Same behavior like in previous beta: "After first reboot there is Grub error 22, overwrite the synoboot vmdk and restart. Installation goes further this time, but there is a shutdown request at the end. Powering ON again, but the same shutdown occurs."(after Starting Synosnmpcd). Thanks. We maybe end up with special build for ESXi as espected
wenlez Posted November 1, 2013 Share #72 Posted November 1, 2013 it would be trule awesome if we can get a ESXi build. I currently have a i7 3770 with Z77 with ESXi5.5 . I would love to use the ASM1602 as passthrough.
Rand__ Posted November 1, 2013 Share #73 Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) @Rand__ : For iSCSI resquest see above. I got the built in iscsi initiator running (basically using http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-setup-debian-ubuntu-linux-iscsi-initiator/). The only issue now is how to recreate the known disk list... When u see your drives on the LSI, did u do anything manually or did that work ootb? (i assume those are sata disks?) Trantor Posted November 2, 2013 Author Share #74 Posted November 2, 2013 Successfully build ESXi version with PVSCSI support in my ESXi 5.5 environment. Like jukolaut said: disable sata support from the kernel, this has the benefit of hiding the boot disk partition. build dummy synobios - Use provided vmdk as first disk (IDE) and others as PVSCSI - Use .pat from beta 2a Link : http://xpenology.trantor.be/esxi/
Rand__ Posted November 2, 2013 Share #75 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) Hm seems to work, lots of error though, see screenshot. Edit: Just realized i added the secondary disk as Parallel SCSI device, not paravirtuell - With PVSCSI the errors dont show (screenshot removed) First boot auto restarted but then ok - looks nice No copying the disk anymore, auto created a volume - great:) Will test controllers next (and trying whether i can mount my iscsi drive:p) Edited November 2, 2013 by Guest
