I have a valid SN for DS3622xs+ too which is offically working within the synology account but ARPL is complaining that this SN is invalid too.

Turns out I lost every config and reconfig using tinycore redpill again, and the SN works flawlessly.

Hello,

This loader is very cool. Good job :)

I just have one big problem for me. The loader is installed on VM on ESXI in 7.0.3. I have installed the firmware and DSM 7.1.1 it's working fine but I can't create a snapshot on the VM so I can't do backup with VEEAM. Anyone have a fix for this ? I don't undestand why it's not working... I just select the disk 0:0 for the backup, just for save the NAS (loader, dsm...)

I have try, when I create a VM and import the VDMK loader on it, without even starting the vm, we can no longer create a snapshot.

It's normal, I can't boot on the loader if the VM use UEFI ?

Thanks

I have the exact same issue in a similar setup.. Snapshot produces the following error regadless if it is powered on/off:

Create Snapshot

Key: haTask-11-vim.VirtualMachine.createSnapshot-390

Description: Create a new snapshot of this virtual machine

Virtual machine: DSTEST

State: Failed - A specified parameter was not correct: spec.deviceChange.device

Errors: An error occurred while taking a snapshot: One of the parameters supplied is invalid.

I googled the state and error description but results are very limited.. any idea on what to test would be more than welcome...

Quick appreciation post...

I've just updated my Microserver Gen 8 to 7.1.1 update 1 with ARPL.

I've used just about every loader going over the years, and this process was exceptionally quick and easy.

Thank you to everyone that puts in their time to make it happen!

Thanks for your information, but I have the same mac and sn when mirgating from a working DSM 7 of TinyCore RedPill Loader.  I am also using Proxmox as well, should I start up another vm and put back all hdd?

This is what I did.  I created another new ProxMox VM with real Serial Number/MAC.  I then imported the configuration from my old VM.  My setup was pretty simple so it didn't take more than 15 minutes.

It's worth a shot.  It worked for me.

Same thing with me.  When I tried to add the Serial Number using a menu item ARPL would complain that it's invalid.  I had to manually put the SN/MAC in the config file. Everything worked this way.

Does anyone can recommend a network card with a compatibility driver that had no problemas with IP assignation and continue with installation?

I've been considering to buy this one for example that has a r8125 built-in chipset:

The driver for this card, "mpt3sas", already exists and is supposed to work! I purchased a Dell Perc H310 and it worked perfectly!

@fbelavenuto hi and thanks for the arpl loader. Is it possible to use this with an DVA1622 build? I tried but it show me only the virtual discs on sata 1 controller on unraid. The passthrough lsi hba wasn't shown up...

@WowaDriver I don't know you specific use for the UNRAID, but I recommend vmware ESXi for virtualization, the stability and the virtual drivers, virtual bios, virtual hardware on ESXi is incomparable to the QEMU virtualization that you have on unraid. The passthrough on ESXi works perfect, and the license on the ESXi is free. So you can give it a shoot. I have 25 Vms on 1 ESXi and 8 of them are DSM (some with tinycore DSM 7, some with jun loader with dsm 6, and some with ARPL DSM 7). All are working fine. Just check your server hardware and see the ESXi compatibility check.

Hi, do you know if iGPU passthrough to DSM works fine on ESXi? For hardware transcoding in dockerized jellyfin, for example... It's unreliable on Proxmox.

Hi all,

I would like to try and contribute with two ideas. Might not be entirely new.

I tried to install ARPL in ESXi 7, using DS3622xs, DS3617 and DS3615 but every time I got a message with Disk not detected.

After doing some research, I found a fix by adding two options in cmdline:

   SataPortMap with value 58

   DiskIdxMap with value 0A00

Now I have a running DS3622XS+ VM. Maybe this can be added by default in ARPL loader, eventually on a per model basis if the values I found are not working on other models.

Interesting discovery: by mistake I added a disk to VM using SCSI Paravirtual Adapter and it shows up in DSM 7. The importance of Paravirtual is that it uses less resources and it can be faster with lower overhead. The weird part is that only the first virtual disk (connected to SCSI Paravirtual adapter) is seen by DSM 7 and every other disk I connected are not detected - It would be great to have SCSI Paravirtual disks working in DSM 7

Thank you all for this great project.

If needed I can add more details.

And another news @IG-88@pocopico, is seem's that Synology will upgrade the kernel to v5 with the 723+, wait and see... Would be a great news for i915 driver (Iris xe) and Intel IGC driver!

r1000 aka ryzen R1600 is not unexpected

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/63463-new-synology-platforms-in-2022-some-thoughts

and its it makes sense to have new types start with the latest kernel (that might still lack some of the mod's older units need)

if the loader make the 723+ image working then it should at least be possible to make a igc driver from vanilla kernel source (syno is not going to publish 5.x kernel source for sure), as for the i915 i would be cautious because it might need some ports in the kernel that might be missing in the r1000 version as it does not need this stuff and it might also be a problem to add a i915 driver made from vanilla kernel source when syno changed parts in there own source in that area, safe bet might have been if they used a intel cpu with xe for a system with hardware transcoding support, then it would be likely to have a i915 driver also supporting any intel gpu that is in the kernel supported that was used (5.10.55), so we are more interested what might come as 923+ (if there is anything, maybe they will drop intel qsv support with 5.x?)

also no 723+ in the new 7.1.1-42962-2 update, so all new 5.x kernel units might be DSM 7.1.2 or even 7.2/8.0?

As I know, but it's rumor, there is a problem of agreement between synology and intel. I work in IT in a big company, and that's what they say in the hallways...

In addition, my Linux specialist colleagues told me that it was unlikely that an R1600 would come out with a kernel lower than 5, because it is not compatible. Knowing SYnology, they would be able to do this, but there would be no CPU and instruction optimization. According to them, it would be necessary to make huge customizations on a kernel 4, which would require hard work compared to the use of the v5 kernel directly.

EDIT: the RS422+ use R1600 or I'm wrong? Which kernel is used?

Anyone of you also have a problem with high loadavg? CPU usage 70-80% but load is Load:  6.48  5.19  2.78

The performance of the synology system itself is bad. Doesn't go to install normally virtual machine. It goes on forever.

Just replying to myself, iGPU passthrough works fine on ESXi (version 7 update 3), vaapi transcoding in dockerized jellyfin is -so far- rock stable.
