Storage Leak (unknown directories with huge size)

7upTurbo

Question

I have a small setup for some of the everyday stuff, which my friends and I dump our files and movies there till we have time to get to them and sort them/move them to where they should be. Recently I have noticed that a big chunk of one of the storage (volume1) is taken by an unknown directory that does not belong to any of us (the drive is 215Gb, and this directory is 153Gb!).

So now I'm wondering what this directory is for? Is it the indexing of my files/drives? If not, can I remove it(or at least clean it somehow)? Or how can I reduce its size?

Some info that may/may not be useful:

Directory location: /volume1/@synologydrive_1647715418/@sync

DSM version: DSM 7.1-42661 Update 1

Loader version and model: DS920+

Installation type: BAREMETAL

So for those with similar issue, I have removed the Synology Drive and removed the @synologydrive_16... file from and the NAS immediately freed up the space. Been running with no problem for the past 2 hours and I rebooted the NAS just in case to see if anything shows up but everything is working fine. I'm gonna go ahead and mark this as resolved.

Are you using Synology Drive feature ?

I wasn't using it till your comment. So I installed it and it was empty!  Could it be from the previous DSM which I migrated from?

could it be some sync/cache between Syno and your remote storage/computer ?

Some sort of versioning option/feature ?

I suspect it is! and I read the post which you sent (thank you btw). they said they couldn't get the space back?!? and they didn't reply if they found a solution for it! So I'm not sure if its safe to remove it or not! What do you think?
