Updating DSM 7.1 update 1 to update 2 on VMware ESXi 7.0U3

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I installed DSM on ESXi, thank you @flyride for great tutorial https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/62221-tutorial-installmigrate-to-dsm-7x-with-tinycore-redpill-tcrp-loader/

I did a clean install of DS918+ DSM 7.1-42661 Update 1.  Everything seems to be working fine, until I wanted updated to U2.

I updated via GUI and after reboot I run TC and SSH and put these commands:

./rploader.sh update now

./rploader.sh fullupgrade now

./rploader.sh backup

./rploader.sh postupdate apollolake-7.1-42661

Unfortunately afer reboot I cannot see my virtualized DS. I can see only recovery page after some time.

I did exactly the same with my hardware custom build DS3622xsp and this worked.

Is there any different with updating on hypervision?

Second question in this thread https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/62919-dsm-71-42661-update-2/ I can see that some users has got TC RedPill in version 0.8.0.3 or 0.8.0.2 I have got 8.0.0.0. From where I can get newer one /or this make any different with update?

Third question

How I can turn / or it is possible to turn on trans-coding on virtualized DSM918 on ESXi7.0U3?

That person @DsMan

Shouldn't be.  The backup command is misplaced however.  That causes you to back up the base environment since you just booted it.  Not sure if that will have any negative effect, but it definitely doesn't do anything productive.  That said I don't think there is any need to restoresession or do anything else prior to postupdate.  Maybe @pocopico or other dev can shed some light on this.

When you update (downloads the latest rploader script) and fullupgrade (downloads new supporting files) you should be on the latest.  There isn't anything to be gained by downloading a new image.

That looks like a baremetal install to me.

But in theory you should be able to pass through your VGA controller and make it work.  You'll need to do some googling as it affects VMware itself.

I have an update.

I deleted my VM and started creating new one. I started from the beginning After creating VM DSM918+ I was able to install Update 2 and 3 in GUI.

./rploader.sh update

./rploader.sh fullupgrade

./rploader.sh postupdate apollolake-7.1.0-42661

and update(s) were successfully installed.

I am not quite sure why this did not work in my first VM.
