Recommended Posts

I was using Truenas but i want to make a new start with DSM,  so i dit an install with Tiny...   But too bad, the disks dit not install it seems that DSM coult not reckognise ZFS.

I also tried to connect the drives to my Mac in a dock but too bad, Drive util see the drives but can not erase them or format them with other os like Fat or Extfs

How can i reset these drives?

you would usually delete the partition table with fdisk, cfdisk, sfdisk (sfdisk --delete /dev/sdb)

also one way is to just overwrite that area in question with zero's

for /dev/sdb

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=2

but keep a eye for the device you choose, you dont want to kill your boot disk

there are also rescue linux images you can boot to use graphical tools like gparted

https://gparted.org/

might be safer as you can better see what you do

The disks are good, i can format them in an old syno d216   But my motherboard from my Truenas system wit a Xeon 1230  does not have a true keygen.   I have used DS3615xs serialgen,  now the system ask for a newer pat file   7.1  42661 pat  and that is not on Synology

Tried it with bootloaders for 6.2  also, only the row happy hacking,  no more

At the time I bought this motherboard with very expensive ECC memory, with a Xeon processor on it, unfortunately those xpenologie solutions apparently only work on game motherboards

This is patently incorrect.  You might want to review the information in the following links.  There is more to XPenology than your carryover knowledge from real Synology.

I have a motherboard Supermicro x9SRi-3F  with a Xeon e31220,   when i tried to install Tinycore redpill  .. when inserting serial command  there was no compatible serialloader,  so i had to try another serialloader with another intel  (I3)

Also tried  bootloaders for 6.1 and 6.2   none of them are loading,   only happy hacking  then nothing.

Which  bootloader (DSM six or seven)  do work with the xeon e31220?

I'll refer you back to the link list from my previous post.  A few items that illustrate the point:

  • Compatible serialloader?  There is no such thing.  Serials correspond to DSM platform versions, which has little to do with your Xeon E3
  • There are boot loaders that support both DSM 6 and DSM 7 that work with your Xeon.  The Loaders and Platforms links will help you understand the relationships between boot loaders, DSM versions and DSM platforms
  • "Happy Hacking" is all that you will ever see.  Please review the FAQ and tutorial reference links for more information on this.

"older" hardware, sandy bridge, not working with 918+ or other types that need haswell

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/13333-tutorialreference-6x-loaders-and-platforms/

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/61634-dsm-7x-loaders-and-platforms/

and there is also the hassle with 6.2 that you would need to boot in BIOS/CSM mode and depending on bios you need to select the right usb boot device (there can be more then one, the one with uefi in its name is usually the wrong one and would result in uefi mode as CSM is only a option that is only used when uding the old legacy usb boot device)

as its a older hardware i would expect the onboard lan to be working ootb with jun's driver (drivers are in the extra.lzma file) but there is also the option to replace the extra.lzma with one that contains newer drivers

thats all you will see on a monitor with jun's loader, anything after that is going to serial port (and needs a null-modem cable to be used)

i'd suggest the tc rp loader for dsm 7.1 and ds3622 as system to use

there is a tutorial linked above but you can also look here as alternative (older)

https://xpenology.club/install-dsm-7-on-baremetal-or-vm/

or look on youtube for a video to install dsm 7.1

don't waste time with 6.x and the older loaders as you will end with a system where you can't update and you will have to look into tc rp loader for that anyway

Hmm,  i saw on the reference that Only the Haswell  do hardware encoding?  So i must take an installer that does not support Hardware encoding?

I need the Synology for 2 things:  Plex (pass) and  HomeAssistant (and i think for the supervised version i must use Docker).

Now tried

https://xpenology.club/install-dsm-7-on-baremetal-or-vm/

there are more commands,  and the first time it dit not asked for a .pat  directly  installing dsm   0-100%   so restart,   and again directly installing dsm whitin a few seconds,  and again restart  and again instarting dsm few seconds 100%    then when restarting i selected the second row on the new machine  boot rows  and now it asked for  a .pat,   >  also tried the upgrades but all aboud   8%  40%  56&  error installing.

thats not going to work with 3622,  bromolow is 3615

the system choosen to build and the serial to generate need to match (the serial has a fixed part that is for the model and a variable part that is randomized by the generator)

this has some basic information about platform and model

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/61634-dsm-7x-loaders-and-platforms/

as you got some experience now, maybe try the more recent howto from here in the forum

But when choosing 3622  The system said: there is no key,  choose from another.

Anyway,  i heard from another that he has the same problem,  the system is loading the wrong pattern.

I dit have another motherboard so i threw away the old expensive board with the ECC memory.

Now i use the ASRock motherboard with J5005 processor (looks a lot like the  J41.. on the ds920+  but a little faster.

Installing in just about  10 minutes

Now i got the system and the desktop, but 1 problem:

i got 3 drives  (2 Red plus  for raid 1   and one SSD for Docker.

But too bad (althoug the motherboard gives all 3  Syno just find only 1 drive.

3622  The system said: there is no key,  choose from another.

and there was a list of selections, you might have overlooked the "DS3622xs+" its often used without the "+" or "p" and that can be confusing, there is no "DS3622xs" from synology its always the "DS3622xs+" even if its writen DS3622xsp or DS3622xs, the "+" might be avoided here an there as its not a letter or number

But too bad (althoug the motherboard gives all 3  Syno just find only 1 drive.

https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/J5005-ITX/index.asp#Specification

- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors, support NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug
- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors by ASMedia ASM1061, support NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug

so its two sata controllers, 920+ uses a different way then the older units and the new way needs to be matched to the hardware (device tree)

my guess its that you only see the 1st controller and the other two drives are on the 2nd

there is a way to redo the default tree file to match the hardware, in the later iterations of the tc rp loader it should be done when building the loader in auto mode but i cant say much about that from memory as i have not used it yet, look in the forum for "device tree dts", the automation might be newer stuff that is not yet in the normal tc rp loader (yet)
