The R710 is such a beast to only use it as a NAS. But you will probably have issues with the disks being recognized with the Perc 6i.

I don't believe there are drivers for that card and I'm unsure if can even be flashed to IT mode.

Have a look at this thread where members have had some success with Jun's Loader (DS3615xs and DS3617xs) and DSM 5 and 6  on a the R710:

Give the DS3622xs+ a try if you want DSM 7 using a test disk in one of the bays to see if the 6i would pass through and give access to the disks.

Thanks bud, I have ordered a perc h700 card to flash in IT mode.

Will look into the  DS3622xs and give it a go.

I don't know anything virtualization of any kind, but willing to try.

Cheers

Would like to try to get DSM 7 on it.

Does this server support 12tb drives, need to test it.

I don't think the R710 will support 12tb drives. According to this document, the max 3.5" hard drive capacity is 4tb.

Thanks mate,

I have now ordered an Perc H200 card to flash to IT mode.

I tried to get the DS3622xs setup but it wouldn't give me an ip from any of the ports, so i disabled them.

I have a 2.5gbe card for my pc put it into the server and that gave me an IP address, used the real mac and port for that card.

loaded up the broadwellnk on the flash drive for DSM 7 but i get no ip, nothing from the router, so cannot boot from that to install DSM.

Will dig a bit deeper into trying to get this work.

cheers for your help mate

What commands did you use to build the loader?

Did you save a copy of the output of your build?

Did you get ANY errors?

Did you get the correct driver for the NIC? I believe the R710 has a Broadcom NIC? You can try this one:

./rploader.sh ext broadwellnk-7.1.0-42661 add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pocopico/rp-ext/master/tg3/rpext-index.json

And you can check to see what drivers you need:

./rploader.sh listmods broadwellnk-7.1.0-42661

Servers can be a bit finicky with all the enterprise grade hardware.

Looks like the loader found your onboard NIC as well as the the 2.5gb NIC.

Is  008E25711489 the real MAC for the 2.5gb card? If so you only need this command:

./rploader.sh serialgen DS3622xs+ realmac

You need to edit your user_config.json and change the MAC address there. You can add both for the 2.5gb NIC if you will be using that.

"sn": "XXXXXXXXXXX33", - Your serial number generated by TCRP

  "mac1":"XXXXXXXXXXF0", - Your real MAC 1

  "mac2":"XXXXXXXXXXF1",  - Your real MAC 2

I use WinSCP for that

Cheers mate, yes 008E25711489  is the real nic for the 2.5 gb card but I cannot access SA or find.synology.com.

Winscp cannot find my ip, and I only get an ip when configuring the TCRP loader after reboot nothing.

FWIW the script doesn't recognize "now" anymore and you cannot specify the mac address with realmac.  It just takes the actual MAC from the hardware.  Same result though, as long as you were typing in the hardware MAC.

./rploader.sh serialgen DS3622xs+ realmac

The only way to specify your own MAC address that is not the hardware MAC is to edit user_config.json yourself.

still not getting an IP from the 2.5gb card, albeit i am getting an IP when installing the TCRP loader tho.

Put the my own mac in still nothing.

Finally got it only with Jun's Loader 1.01, v6.0.2 DS3615xs_8451 pat file.

Got the 4 internal  macs in the grub.cfg

I have a Perc H200I flashed in IT mode

So it looks as if i cannot take this anywhere else, as i have spent a lot of time reading the forum.

If anyone can shed a light in taking this up to 6.2 i would be happy with that.

Cheers

I installed a temporary cheap pci-e card in mine that RedPill Tiny core recognized and the setup was easy from there for DSM 7

Got one installed as well mate, but still doesn't give me an ip after I build the loader.

What version of dsm are you using.
