Does anyone know where is the default synology repo stored in the file system? i.e /etc/???? something?

Thanks

What is Default Synology repo? what do you looking for?

i dont see any packages listed under package center. Trying to figure out what and where something is broken. Internet connectivity is good from the box.

How can I do a completely clean install? There was some problem with 1.02a Loader and the new DSM 6.1.1!

There was no data on the disks. Only the clean DSM.

How can I go back? I still find a synology with syno tool and it says to me "recovery", but i want a clean install with an older DSM version...

You can try this >>> viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30805

Try installing update 9 or 10 or 11 see if that helps.

I updated yesterday to 6.1.1 from 6.1 using 3615 loader. No problem so far.

Was this baremetale or VM?

Baremetale install

You seem to be the only one I have seen in the forum who has been able to update from DSM6.1 to DSM6.1.1 using loader v1.02a (3615xs).

Was this an update from DSM6.1 or you did a clean/fresh install of DSM6.1.1 ?

Now I'm wondering how I could revert to 6.0.2 update 11, the latest version that worked best on my Gen8 bare-metal.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Tried that but for some reason It keeps looping me in the recoverable state after finishing the installation. Tried both migration and clean install but it keeps failing.

Maybe it's because I'm using a RAID 1 configuration with two 4 TB drives. They seem to have two partitions each (one is 2 GB - /dev/sda2 and the other one is 2.37 GB large - /dev/sda1), followed by an unallocated partition of 127.12 MB, and then the data partition, which is 3.63 TB). Should i have wiped both /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2?

Yes format the partitions in ext4

You have to match the DNS of the NAS to that of the router. I followed the link below and solved the problem for my NAS. Please see if that helps.

This was an update.

I did a fresh install yesterday evening to try 3617 loader which did not work, maybee because only migration was offered. As It did not work, I reinstalled 3615 loader.

Here is what happened :

- process installed DSM 6.1 from Synology repositories

- when I logged into DSM, update 6.1.1 was available to download, and I processed normally

I might be the second one. I am using loader v1.02a (3615xs) with the latest DSM 6.1.1-15101 Update 1 on 2 different bare metal system. One is working system and other is test system. Working system has ASUS MB, older i7, 12GB RAM, 10 HD, bond network. The test machine is an older DELL Optiplex 755 with 8GB RAM and 3HD.

I did an upgrade from 6.1 to 6.1.1 ... Not a fresh install.

hmm ,check the last line of new dsm update , is it why we experience failures with installs?

Version: 6.1.1-15101-1

(2017/05/02)

Important Note

The update is expected to be available for all regions within the next few days, although the time of release in each region may vary slightly.

This update will restart Synology NAS models supporting SSD cache.

Fixed Issues

Fixed an issue where domain users/groups might be displayed incorrectly when a file ACL is checked via Samba.

Fixed an issue where users might experience failure or receive no response when updating domain data.

Fixed an issue where volumes might not function normally when read-write SSD cache is used with advanced iSCSI LUNs.

Fixed an issue where encrypted shared folders cannot be unmounted when connections with Samba clients have been established.

Fixed an issue where failure of installation or upgrade might occur in Package Center.

Does anyone know where is the default synology repo stored in the file system? i.e /etc/???? something

You have to match the DNS of the NAS to that of the router. I followed the link below and solved the problem for my NAS. Please see if that helps.

https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopi ... 7&start=15

Ok thank you. That worked. However that is the strangest issue ever. Why would DNS of the router need to match on the xpenology. Must be a dsm 6.0.2 bug or something. I have no problem on dsm 5.2 on my other xpenology of.

Okay, so after a couple of hours I'm up and running, all systems a go. Here is what I did to recover as well as my key takeaways from this incident.

A little bit of history

Yesterday I found that my bare-metal Gen8 microserver had been automatically updated from 6.0.2-8451 Update 11 to the nefarious 6.0.3-8754. As I was running Jun's 1.01 bootloader, I soon learnt that my bootlegged NAS got bricked. My setup features two 4 TB WD RED drives hooked in a RAID 1 (Volume 1) array, a 3 TB WD Green as a Volume 2 array and a 120 GB SSD drive acting as cache.

I was able to find the device in the Synology Assistant, yet I was unable to access shares, apps or the admin interface.

What I did

Step 1. Panic. I had planned for hardware failure but not to the point where I could not boot the freaking rig at all. I realized that my NAS kept being detected as migratable and I was stuck in this migration loop for a while.

Step 2. Disconnect the SSD cache and the Volume 2 (the 3 TB WD Green). Used the Gen8's iLO interface to boot the management console and mount an Ubuntu 16.04 ISO. Booted the rig off of the Ubuntu image and fired up gparted (Unity icon -> gparted ->enter). In my case, the gparted info looked like below:

/dev/sda1/ - 2.37 GB

/dev/sda2/ - 2.00 GB

/dev/sdb1/ - 2.37 GB

/dev/sdb2/ - 2.00 GB

some unallocated partitions and the data partition which was 3.63 TB large were also present. Formatted the /dev/sda1/, /dev/sda2/, dev/ sdb1/ and /dev/sdb2/ as EXT4, then applied the settings, then rebooted. Fuck. Same bootloop between recoverable (settings lost) and migratable.

Step 3. Repeat step 2 but rewrite the bootloader from scratch using Polanskiman's tut here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22100. Just to land on the safe side for once, I got a new flash drive I had lying around and prepared the bootloader image. Booted the rig and installed DSM_DS3615xs_8451.pat from https://usdl.synology.com/download/DSM/ ... s_8451.pat (side note: before you start doing this, don't be stupid, delete all the downloaded images you might have in the download folder and start from scratch. It's gonna save you a ton of work if you know which file is which). Created the admin user and password and logged in.

Right after, I applied the 6.0.2-8451 Update 11 fix downloaded from http://download.synology.com/download/D ... 3615xs.pat.

Rebooted, fixed my DNS (i changed the MAC and serial number so my router issued a different IP than what I had leased until yesterday).

Step 4. Add the SynoCommunity Repo and install my previous apps (CouchPotato, Sickrage, Transmission and Headphones). Since it's 6.0.2, make sure that you have created the default users (couchpotatoserver, sickbeard-custom, transmission and headphones) prior to the actual app installation. Also grant the appropriate RW privileges on the folders they should have access to.

Reboot and profit.

Lessons learned:

Remember, next time don't take the leap of faith and make sure that you don't install updates that have not been green-lit by the community. Also, I was kinda impressed by the resilience of my setup. Not only that I was able to recover without losing any data, but I was also able to mount volume 2 and the SSD cache without losing anything on Volume 2. Of course, i formatted the cache drive without remorse.

Thanks everybody who have helped me get back on track. Good luck to everyone else who fell for 6.0.3.

Here is the beginning as I am limited by character max number.

Can you both please use https://pastebin.com to paste all the logs and post the link here. I would like to see the entirety of dmesg output.

So I can confirm Jun 1.02a with 6.1.1-15101-1 Baremetal on a Dell DCS C6005 (C6100 series cloud server) running the Dual AMD Opteron 2419EE, 48GB of Ram and using the onboard 6 port sata connections, I am not using the onboard pci-e slot just yet, but I'll be testing a Mellanox ConnectX-2 in the next week or two (hopefully).

Just for sake of notes:

Install using DSM_DS3617xs_15047.pat with the Jun 1.02a (NOT 1.02a2)

I then used the DSM update option to upgrade first to 15101, then again to update to the 15101-1 version.

So far, everthing seems fine.

I should have mentioned about re-writing the image to the usb key. When one updates DSM (in principle major updates), the kernel (zImage), the ramdisk (rd.gz), grub_cksum.syno as well as checksum.syno in the loader get replaced by the ones from the .PAT file. This means that, even formatting the HDD but keeping the loader untouched will prevent things from running smoothly because the loader will have inherited the kernel and ramdisk of the major update that was last installed. If you try installing a version of DSM inferior to the one stated in the kernel within the loader then you will receive an error saying you need to install a newer version of DSM.

Following the system partition format, also re-writing the image to the usb key is advisable unless there was no DSM update applied and consequently no alteration to the loader's kernel and ramdisk. To be on the safe side it's always better to re-write the loader or replace the kernel and ramdisk by the ones from a fresh untouched loader image and delete grub_cksum.syno as well as checksum.syno, then start the installation.

Don't be surprised if you have dysfunctional features or issues. The loader is not optimised for 6.1.1 although it seems to be working on baremetal machines. VMs seem to be the ones which are affected with the inability to update 6.1 to 6.1.1

My personal recommendation would be not to go beyond 6.0.2 (update 11) or even 6.1 (update 2) which should be fine in principle as many people seem to have been using 6.1 for close to two months now.

You can read here below threads:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31418

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32842

DO NOT install DSM 6.0.3 - you wont be able to boot.

Be very cautious of DSM 6.1.1 - There are mixed reviews, and it seems VMs users are the ones experiencing bricked boxes. I have seen a report or two about baremetal also being bricked. My advice is, stay away from it.

Thank you for the reply.

So if I understand the translation of "google translate", the most recent and stable version you suggest is version 6.1, which corresponds to the DS3617xs 6.1 Jun's Mod V1.02-alpha.zip file, is it correct?

Thanks again for the help.

I've hit the same problem with DSM 6.0.3 update.

I am on Jun's 1.01 loader and have 4HDD Raid 5 in my rig.

I don't want to loose my personal data in there, so wondering what options are there available for me?

I have re-flashed my usb with fresh loader and tried migration and "fresh system install" (with all files safe).

No luck, and my rig just boots, starts the drives and apparently works on the hard drives as I can hear them, but no way to login via web nor ssh. Anyway ssh lost after "fresh system install" as it got rid of my all settings.

Shall I try to update to 6.1, as I have a feeling there is something still on the drives that indicate 6.0.3 installed and doesn't allow to install 6.0.2 back properly.

Any hints?
