Micro-ITX build advice

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at changing my current tower running xpenology to a more compact NAS build. I'd like to utilise the current CPU (i3-4130), 5x 2TB Hard Drives and 16GB DDR3 RAM but replace motherboard with a mini-itx board and a compact case. I'm looking for recommendations about what people think are good compatible boards and cases with no driver or build issues.

At the moment I am looking at the ASRock H97M-ITX/ac motherboard - http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/h97m-itxac/

Case I am looking at either:

U-NAS NSC-800 - http://www.u-nas.com/product/nsc800.html

or

Silverstone DS380 - http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=452

Any thoughts on these or other recommendations?

Thanks!

I owned these two case before, and I highly recommend U-NAS NSC-800. It's quiet, well built, and much better ventilation. the fan system in the Silverstone DS380 doesn't pull much air, and hard drives becomes very hot with this case.

Hey blue man I have that motherboard and cpu Baremetal. works well I put it in a cool master rc-130. added a custom hdd cage

http://s.aliexpress.com/yaaU3e6R

And 2 bitfenix spectre fans 120mm with the bitfenix fan controller I have them running slowish and it's quiet and cool

I had to remove the CD-ROM holder to fit the hdd cage

Went with a corsair semi modular Psu

Also put a Intel duel Nic

The only drama I put in a

DEEPCOOL Gamer Storm GABRIEL CPU Cooler and there is only about 2mm between that and the ram so choose low style without all the fins

Hey wenlez,

Where'd you get the u-nas case from? I've been searching for one for a while now!

I was lucky, and bought a NSC-800 from eBay. I don't know where to get U-NAS case now, but if you search for " Will Jaya" on both Amazon and eBay, you'll see the 4 bay and 8 bay version of the U-NAS case. i'm quite sure they are identical. that's Jaya, with Y.

No meaning to start any arguments, but for a SOHO NAS, how important is the hot-swap feature?

Wouldn't a good mid-sized quiet tower case, with ample internal space for cooling, be a reasonable option vs some "cramped" NAS boxes with hot-swap capabilities?
