Trouble with Msi z370

When I boot into grub it say's "Starting kernel with USB boot" and then it stalls out.  Nothing happens.  My nic does not light up green

In my bios I changed the boot setting from mixed to UEFI only but it doesn't affect the issue

add the tcrp-diag extension from pocopico.

press e to change the grub config , after efi add tcrpdiag and press F10 to continue. After the failure boot again to tinycore and get the html file from /mnt/sdb3/diag folder.

I setup tcrpdiag in the grub menu

 

linux /ZImage withefi tcrpdiag

 

Then f10 and boot in 'Redpill DS918+ v7.0.1-42218 (USB, Verbose)'  waited 5 minutes and then held down the power button to turn it off.  Booted into TC and waited 5 more minutes.  Then checked /mnt/sda/  there is no diag folder unfortunately........thanks for the idea it was a good one...

I decided to take a different approach because IG-88 told me that "it wasn't a processor problem".  So with those words of encouragement I decided to test it with Proxmox 7.01-2.  Sure it a VM but the big different my mellanox 10gb card is bridged.  So i gave it a try

I'm not seeing ssd drive though that is connected to the Adaptec Controller,  Not sure about NVME yet.........

if you take out the mallanox and the adaptec (using just ahci sata and realtek onboard 1G nic) its pretty much standard for 918+

try to get it working that way (baremetal) and then add mellanox and adaptc

 

in general you wont see anything useful an screen when the dsm kernel starts as all console output is going to serial port

should be no problem to get it up and running with just the onboard stuff and then you can venture into more advanced stuff

you can try the old 6.2.x loader, just for the basic "find it in network" the 1.04b loader should do in its original form without changing anything (for installing dsm to disk the usb vid/pid need to be entered in grub.cfg as a 2nd step)

hardware transcoding with 6.2.3 (loading i915 driver properly) would need my extra/extra2 for 6.2.3 (and some patching for using video station)

if you have /dev/dri with devices in it with 6.2.3 would mean you have the extra/extra2 working and that should also give you mellanox drivers and aacraid driver for the adaptec, so you can try adding these cards and connect network to the mellanox and add a disk to the adaptec to see if it shows up in storage manager

 

Adaptec ASR-71605 has device id 9005:028C

Mellanox Technologies MT27500 Family [ConnectX-3] would be 15b3:1003

both would be supported in tc's drivers (https://github.com/pocopico/rp-ext)

 

i dont see any roadblock for using 918+ 7.0.1 with tc rp loader

 

i915 driver (part of 918+ dsm) for 7.0.1 might need copying additional i915 firmware files after installing (easy thing), get the other stuff sorted out, thats least of your problems to worry about

Food for thought

 

During my last two weeks of Redpill 7.01 testing  it's clear that there a some issues with booting Chelsio T420, T520 and HP 544+ Mellanox 10gb, and Intel X520 single port.  Maybe it's a timing issue, when TC boots you see the extensions loading and  it lights up the cards it's very polished.  However, when you try Baremetal the cards fall a sleep and do not wake up. .  Chelsio has a firmware issue that  is updated correctly by Promox 7.01-2.  Debain 10 looks for the firmare in text file.  But the Chelsio Site has the file in binary.  Also when try and create a firmware directly in TC it removes  the folder when you reboot (something about rules). I need some help with this......

if there are different version numbers of the firmware, like for the cxgb4 driver you will need to create a symlink there too and let it point to the firmware version you want to use, the needed firmware might depend on the chip or firmware on the card (hard to say without knowing the vendor, you might need to try one after another and look for errors in /var/log/dmesg), usually you try the newest 1st

 

the mellanox cards dont need extra firmware, hard so say whats wrong without a log like dmesg, same for the intel 10g nic (most common problem with the intel might be that it needs a newer driver)

Thanks for the sharing the good ideas for chelsio firmware.  I'll work on that after mellanox. 

 

Since this thread was mainly getting mellanox 10gb going with 7.01.

 

So to start I have compiled a list of every type of mellanox card that I have.  It ranges From Connectx3 mostly and back to really old connectx2.  I've dug into the firmware and listed it for you.  It' on the chip of each card.  I can test each one by one and well see what needs to be done to get it working hopefully.

 

You want to  see demsg?  The whole thing or just the mellanox stuff?

 

Also later on we can test Intel X520 and Supermicro X520 SR2,  there is a new Plain Vanilla Extension I can try

I tested a graphics card today to see if I could get a little more info.  That didn't change anything.  I decided to run DS9118 V6.24-25556

 

It didn't really change anything but a did get a new message

if there are different version numbers of the firmware, like for the cxgb4 driver you will need to create a symlink there too and let it point to the firmware version you want to use, the needed firmware might depend on the chip or firmware on the card (hard to say without knowing the vendor, you might need to try one after another and look for errors in /var/log/dmesg), usually you try the newest 1st

 

the mellanox cards dont need extra firmware, hard so say whats wrong without a log like dmesg, same for the intel 10g nic (most common problem with the intel might be that it needs a newer driver)
