XPEH Posted September 6, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2013 Rejoice testers! This may make testing XPEnology on VMWare Workstation10/Player6 easier since SATA is now supported.
WizardFusion Posted September 8, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2013 Yes, and it picks up the SATA drives straight away without issue It also boots up much quicker.
tchuyev Posted September 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2013 I confirm, performance on both the boot disk and data volume is MUCH better The boot sequence now displays: 'Enable Synology SATA Fast Booting'! Simply replace the IDE controller (remove virtuals disks from inventory) with SATA. All data is kept intact, no problem.
postdeals Posted September 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2013 Have you compared this to ESXI image? HOw is the performance?
tchuyev Posted September 12, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2013 ESXi 5.5 also provides a new VM compatibility level (virtual hardware v10), that includes support for a virtual-SATA Advance Host Controller Interface (AHCI). Theoretically, performance should be the same... but as always, it all depends on the RAID array type; type and number of disks behind the controller; connectivity (iSCSI/FC/NFS); etc. If you're after performance, you can use vSphere Flash Read Cache or Pernix FVP! kennyb Posted September 19, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2013 I'm running a VM using the OVF file I found in this forum. I can set the boot disk as SATA but when I try to add my 2TB physical disk as SATA (use entire disk), I get an internal error when clicking OK. When I add this disk as IDE it works fine. I think it's better to add this disk as SATA for better performance or am I wrong? Someone knows how I can add this disk as SATA?
