epicurean Posted June 3, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2016 On one of the volumes on my xpenology 5.2 (its a VM on esxi), 1 hard drive keeps getting "unallocated". I go into manage, put it back it, and it does its repair. After a few hours, that same drive gets kick out again. what can be the cause? and how do I remedy it? These 6 drives are 6 TB HGST in hybrid raid mode much thanks for any help
elmuziko Posted June 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2016 I have an N54L and once upon a time tried a 6 drive RAID using the 4 main ports, the onboard, then an additional PCI RAID card. I had the same problem. As soon as I removed the PCI drive, everything started working properly. I assume it's down to speeds? PCI card delivers data at a different rate to the rest and so dropped off from time to time. With that in mind, are all 6 devices using the same hardware SATA ports? All on the same mobo or RAID card?
AllGamer Posted June 3, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2016 That brings up a good point, since PCI 32bit maxes out at 133 MByte/s It'll be best not to mix the 4 drives on the PCI controller, with the 4~6 drives from the onBoard SATA controller. Keep them as 2 separate Volumes, and use drive grouping to keep them as 2 separate set of drives.
epicurean Posted June 6, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted June 6, 2016 Well, I kind of eliminated this problem by added an additional 2 more drives (one of which acts as a spare). Its behaving now. Noted on the point of different volumes on different HBA controllers. Make good sense too
