quicknick Posted May 13, 2016 Share #26 Posted May 13, 2016 Understood it is from beta, but it technically should work using the toolchains from current. I agree under GPLv2 they are required to. I was just saying in lieu of current source. I also have the beta toolchains and beta pat. I just hadn't gotten around to compiling it yet. Now that I have some free time I was going to mess with it. I don't think you can virtualize anything else than Virtual DSM in there
sweebee Posted May 25, 2016 Share #32 Posted May 25, 2016 Or you just install virtualbox, which works great.
M230 Posted May 25, 2016 Author Share #33 Posted May 25, 2016 So with DSM virtualization would we be able to, say, run DSM 7.0 on a 6.0 machine without the wait?
Rusty Posted May 26, 2016 Share #34 Posted May 26, 2016 No.
M230 Posted May 26, 2016 Author Share #35 Posted May 26, 2016 Why not?
abced Posted May 26, 2016 Share #36 Posted May 26, 2016 Why not? Virtualization makes it like you would run another DSM bare metal.

timgjr Posted May 30, 2016 Share #39 Posted May 30, 2016 So with DSM virtualization would we be able to, say, run DSM 7.0 on a 6.0 machine without the wait? Kind of.. they specifically use Virtual DSM as an example of running different versions of DSM. Just don't know how far that goes when it comes to major release versions. I think it's intended to allow you to go 'backward' to previous versions.. not forward.. So while you could keep someone at DSM VM 5.2, on a 6.0 system, installing a 'newer' version in a DSM VM is probably not something it was designed to do. TBK Posted May 31, 2016 Share #40 Posted May 31, 2016 QEMU/KVM which Virtual DSM Manager is build on is hardware virtualization, so technically it can run any newer version on top of a older version of DSM.
timgjr Posted June 7, 2016 Share #41 Posted June 7, 2016 Figured we'd hear some news by now.. Is their a GitHub or anything? or is their anyone working on 6.0 for expenology?
