@ingen300 - please you are trolling! We know that DSM 6 is not compatible with the current Xpenoboot!

It was automatic updated!

The only thing that worked was:

1. Boot into Install Upgrade mode

2. Run SynoAssyst in order to find IP

3. Open browser to Install Wizard

4. Choose Clean install (delete settings, preserve files)

5. Install DSM_5.2-5644

6. Reboot and login with Admin and blank password

7. Make manual upgrade (one by one), from Update-1, Update-2, Update-3, Update-5 (there is no Update-4).

The files for upgrade are here.

8. Reconfigure the nas... (two hours).

Hi Mentat,

I just share my experience about this problem. (Not trolling).

In any DSM version 5.x will have automatic update function. This function can set to turn off for automatic updates.

it look like you did not know about this function.

I mention this is for anyone would like to recover the "Data File" only. Not the settings.

Reason DSM 6 the HDD was not mounted into system.

Now the all thing is working again, thanks to your very kind of help

thank you very much

as i told before im pretty new, so to understand it right

is it necessary to have an usb with the Xpenobott in the server all the time ?

if yes, to get the newest version of Xpenoboot is it then just to copy past to the usb ?

Same here... Did not lose any files just had to reconfigure my nas...

In DSM 6 in order to get root access and change VERSION file I had to telnet into it

login with admin (root was not working)

"sudo su -" to gain root access

vi VERSION and changed it to a lower version

reinstalled en reconfigured and working fine again

Been searching for a while before decided to start reconfiguring

I couln't find a way to get it back working as it was before update to DSM 6

I did the update to 6.0 aswell, I now have no volume (shows 6 unused disks)

I was using SHR on 6x6TB drives in a microserver

Have I lost my data as I cant see the volume? ...or do I just need to roll back to 5.2?

Thanks

You have not lost your data as long you'd did not formatted the disk

Before you go back to 5.2 be sure you have the right pat file

then complete the 6.0 update

put your usb with the expenoboot file in to your server

be sure that you have a screen connected to your server with the via cable restart your server boot with usb

then choose the install/update 5.2

then go back to your computer and look for your server with sinology assistant

choose to manual update and then browse to the 5444.4 pat file and then follow the instructions

Hey guys, just wanted to confirm that these instructions also work for those who have xpenology under esxi. Mine updated on its own over the weekend and I was able to restore it back following these instructions. Many thanks to the original poster. It's even easier in esxi because you get to see what ip address synology gets reset to in console and your don't need putty. It can all be done in vsphere client. Mine wasn't even booting into 6.0 as it kept saying that "We've detected that the hard drives of your current DS3615xs had been moved..." I chose the 2nd option under installation prompt, but don't worry it won't format your drives. I don't think 6.0 can get access to your drives if you are using xpanoboot anyway. I let it download the files on its own because it wouldn't accept any of my pat files. Once you set your admin account your can just follow the instructions from here from the console. The 2nd time it let me use my old pat files. And yes use sudo su and vi. If you are using a different bootloader, I can't say this method will work. You can always create a new VM and use your old disk images.

You can easily turn off task for updates in task manager. I thought that was obvious.

I need some help / assistance here!!

I stupidly left the XPEnology Diskstation to auto update and its updated itself, all I get now when I log into the Diskstation via the Web Assisant is;

"We've detected that the hard drives of your current DS3615xs, had been moved from a previous DS3615xs, and installing a newer DSM is required before continuing"

Device info;

FW 5.2-5644

DSM Ver; 6.0-7321

I've tried to install via the Web Assisant, nothing seems to install, I just go back to the above message on rebooting

If i check the status via Synology Assistant it reports as "Migratable"

I've also hooked up a monitor to the diskstation but cant log in, the keyboard doesnt seem to work.

I dont even think SSH is enabled either;

help anyone!! :grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:

when you are on the screen "migrate" be sure you have the right pat file local on your computer, then choose to update manual

when you get the next screen with two options choose option 2

if it fails, then try again

i did this two times before it would downgrade

Do you mean - Clean installation; keep my files only?

I've tried the Migration; keep my files and settings, but has failed everytime

thanks!

Yeps Choose clean installation

And be sure you have the right pat file [emoji3]

Don't worry you only loose all your settings and packages but you don't loose any data

Thanks, that worked!

I was a bit nervous choosing that option, but does work, cheers!

Mine too was on auto update

Is there a way to revert back but keep all settings and packages?

I have many settings and scripts plus a lot of camera settings on surveillance station 7.1 and quite a few packages.

Hi paddlingpool...

there was no way keep the settings of the packages.

only data file will retain ...

Thought that might be the case

So at the moment it has installed automatically but to complete the installation I have to select a .pat file manually right?

If so, can you tell me what .pat file this is please? is it the 5644 one?

Or,

Do I have to let the box select automatically what .pat file it is and let the installation complete before i can revert back manually?

Thank you Flarup so much to solve my big problem  I accidently upgrade FW 5.2-5644 to Ver; 6.0-7321 and XPEnology boot usb is not support 6.0 NAS disk can not access, I use DSM 5.2-5644 install again and select clear install, all data will keep, you just lost all your setting, but it's ok to set setting again in 1 hour, so thanks again!

don`t be so sad... yes you need select manual. before process select manual you need to download the file DSM DS3615sx_5644.pat.
