Dfds Posted January 23, 2022 Share #26 Posted January 23, 2022 @defizr personally I would upgrade to “the bay” bios, there are others but it’s the one I use.
billat29 Posted January 23, 2022 Share #27 Posted January 23, 2022 @defizr I've been too lazy to upgrade and am still on the stock BIOS. But if I were you I would do it as @Dfdssays. The onboard nic works and don't forget to disable C1 in the BIOS

defizr Posted January 23, 2022 Share #29 Posted January 23, 2022 One more question please. Does it make any difference whether I use the DS3615XS or DS3617XS download on my N36L?
defizr Posted January 24, 2022 Share #30 Posted January 24, 2022 OK I've generated the USB drive as per the Xpenology tool. It boots the N36L but hangs at the boot screen saying 'Screen will stop updating shortly, please open find.synology.com to continue'. C1E is disabled. Any pointers as to what to look for please? Dfds Posted January 24, 2022 Share #31 Posted January 24, 2022 Did you try find.synology.com?
defizr Posted January 24, 2022 Share #32 Posted January 24, 2022 It's hung without giving me a command line. All I have is a flashing cursor.
Dfds Posted January 24, 2022 Share #33 Posted January 24, 2022 That’s as it should be, you need to access it from another machine’s web browser
defizr Posted January 24, 2022 Share #34 Posted January 24, 2022 It's all working fine. Thank you very much indeed. Is it OK to download updates from Synology or are they likely to break anything?
Dfds Posted January 24, 2022 Share #35 Posted January 24, 2022 No problem, glad you’re up & running. Do not update beyond 6.2.3u3 with loader 1.03b, later versions of DSM require a different boot loader.
defizr Posted February 5, 2022 Share #36 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) One more question please. I have 4 WD and one Seagate drives in a RAID 5 configuration in my N36L running 6.2.23739. The Seagate is in one of the caddies and one of the WDs is in the upper optical bay. Is it OK to swap them round so the 4xWDs are in the caddies and the Seagate is in the optical drive bay? Will it break anything? I know it's a bit OCD but I do like neatness 😀 Edited February 5, 2022 by defizr
Dfds Posted February 5, 2022 Share #37 Posted February 5, 2022 Assuming you power off before swapping the disks it shouldn’t be a problem, however as always make sure you have a backup of any important data.
