@killseeker@synoxpe no. i didn't faced that error, sorry...

i'm on an asrock j4005m that boot only from uefi. obviously i disabled secureboot.

i've tried again with a different flash drive and it just works.

at this time, i wrote the "tinycore-redpill.v0.4.4.img" image with rufus on windows. then i started a virtual machine with linuxmint edge 20.3 cinnamon x64 installed and followed the same steps that i posted previously. you clearly have to change "my" /dev/sdb with the right path pointing your device.

Thx for responding, I was trying from a LIVE Ubuntu IMG

I'm installing Ubuntu on a HyperV machine, so give it another try from within the VM and I'll see how that goes :)

I notice at the bottom you specified a specific extension, can you explain that a little?  Whats the benefit or would it be better to do this? Thanks

This extension enables the power button to shutdown the system, it's on @pocopico repo.

Thanks for sharing. Help me please with the logic (newbie alert!). I see 24, 25 mapped  to 2,3 and 26~29 to 10~13. What about the other drives?

Say I've 6 drives. How to construct the mapping?

@Unregistrado got it right. I didn't remap all the drives to make the sequence perfect, but i should and i will when i have the time. My motherboard has 4 physical satas, but 6 logical ports, so i fill the gaps. The offboard sata controller has 20 ports, but the sequence is messed up too.

To install i used SataPortMap=1 to avoid "we've detected errors on hard drives (X, X)", after the successful install did dmesg and looked for ata DUMMY entries, tried the sata_remap editing grub, tests were OK, recompiled RedPill and it's working.

@haydibe got it working on Proxmox by following this video. Thanks much for helping out so far!

You could have setup the vm with way less effort...

If you use the command sequence from this post, the tinycore image would be pulled, a vm using the tinycore image as usb boot would be created + a 100gb disk + serial ports for boot logs.  This vm can be booted right away without changes - or further customized, like adding more disk for instance. Just make sure to not mess arround with any other parameter that you have seen in any random tutorial... they might break the perfectly fine pre-configuration.

Once tinycore is booted, you run the usual commands to detect the sata settings and take care of the serial number + network.

Before you run the actual build you just need to configure the SataPortMap + DiskIdxMap in the user_config.json  according the settings from this post and your setup is complete - of course having additional controllers added as passthrough will require different SataPortMap and DiskIdxMap, but for a default vm "this is the way!"

If at one point you mess up the tinycore image and want to start from scratch, you just have to power off the vm, re-execute this command sequenc

id=930
gzip --decompress /var/lib/vz/images/${id}/tinycore-redpill.img.gz --keep

Start the vm again and you will start with a clean slate, without having to worry about anything else. There is no need to remove the vm, unless you want to get rid of the data on the attached 100gb data disk as well...

It doesn't get less painfree than that ;)

Ikky_phoenix is totally right in the way he edits the sata remap. And it is the same for sataportmap and other settings in grub. As soon as grub starts push letter e on keyboard. Alter values of sataportmap and what not. Try to boot, if everything is as you wish, start tinycore again alter the values you need, build and reboot. If you are not satisfied with the result just reboot and push e again alter till you get it right.

I got it sorted. I found HyperV wouldn't redirect USB though. So I installed USBIP on my WIndows PC and the Ubuntu VM. Got the USB updated to UEFI Correctly.

After that, I found it still didn't help my disk detection process for upgrading to DSM 7.0 - From all my previous messages in this thread.

TLDR, I was struggling to get my DSM 7.0 Install to give me a migratable option. MPT3SAS and Disks were being detected correctly, just no option to Migrate only fresh install.

After I disabled motherboard SATA controller (which only has 1 drive connected to it), leaving only my MPT3SAS Raid card (with 8 drives connected). I was presented with a migratable option!! YAY!

So now, I have DSM 7.0 installed and working beautifully as it was in all my previous testing :)

I can only assume that my disk on my SATA controller did not have any of the DSM6.2 OS install on the disk and the DSM7.0 install was looking there as it was included.

I may end up changing my SATAPortMAPs again later on to put the Onboard Sata Controller and Disk back online. But for now its not important!.

Man, what a ******* Plex Media Server was for DSM7 though, I didn't realise it creates a whole new user account and needs to migrate the configuration / metadata. Took some googling but worked through it also :)

I really appreciate you efforts here @pocopico, you've really made an awesome tool here.

Major props to so many of our awesome contributors to this thread and the forums!!! Go Xpenology :)

So both appear to be working ok , I am having difficulty with Face recognise in Photos, Iv'e tried the suggestions I have read, to passthrough the GPU as 0000:00:02.0 , that does not seem to work (unless real serial is still needed) , i915 hw transcode is working for Video's, Plex , conversion in Photos etc. so the quicksync aspects are working correctly .  (I'm using mediated passthrough of the integrated GPU which is a coffeelake UHD 630 . )

Iv'e seen there Is a patch to make face recognition work on the DS918+ using just the cpu , however Iv'e been unable to get that to work also ,  (again not sure if real serial is needed ) .

That's the only thing that's stopping me running this as a parallel daily driver.

Appeciate All you guys effort, Iv'e been experimenting , and trialing since your docker redpill, and can't thank you guys enough .

Edit : Oh I can't seem to get Esxi to passthrough the gpu as 0000:00:02.0 , it just seems to revert back when I change pciPassthru0.pciSlotNumber = "2" . With Proxmox I can but only under machine type i440 not q35 for some reason.

Just to update DS918+ build with full (GVTd rather than GVTg) IGD / IGPU passed through at pci slot 2 on Proxmox works and uses the gpu for Face recognition with a generated serial number . (don't need to use the patch to use CPU)

I haven't been able to work out a way yet to to specify the slot the igpu is passed through on for ESXi , so the GPU is used for HW transcoding in things like plex , but not for face recognition ..

(my integrated GPU is a 9th gen intel UHD 630 )

Just trying this script/redpill (thanks all the great work) for the fist time, and getting "bsdiff.txz file not found" error+exit running the script.

Turns out CURL could not verify server certificate and adding "--insecure" to all CURL commands in the script solved the issue.

Hope this helps others with the same issue.

@pocopicoExcellent Job. Thanks a lot!

After a litte while and understanding SataPortMap and DiskIdxMap my Dell T20 appears to run nicely on DSM 7 (previously 6.something)

The output of the rploader script was providing

64 for  SataPortMap and

0004 for DiskIdxMap -

if I remember correctly.

First controller 6, second controller 4 ports. So far, so correct but not all ports are in use.

So I figured out for the first controller 4 drivers were in use and for the second 2 drivers plus 1 USB Key.

I changed

SataPortMap to 421 (4 drives on controller 1, 2 drives on controller 2 and 1 usb key)

DiskIdxMap to 000406 (00 for drive 0-3, continuing 04 for the following 2 drives and 06 for the USB key)

I hope I correctly remember the values (System is currently busy) and the values might help others.

Thanks again!

@pocopico Just as a heads up, ext bnx2x, igb, and megaraid_sas comes back with a 404 Not Found error when trying to pull them in to the build. Also when trying to build ds3617xs, downloading from cndl.synology.cn after a certain time seems to be impossible. The connection is always dead after a certain hour. And then the software won't allow you to finish if you can't download it.

I've noticed the git repos are now named "main" as opposed to "master".

I think GitHub has done that due to political sensitivities.

However, the scripts don't reflect that change yet.

The maintainers have some work to do.

Hi soulcola,

Thanks for your answer. What is strange is that the same configuration works perfectly with Jun's loader and DSM6.2.3 : my disks are respectively identified as 3 (SSD), 4 & 6 (linux RAID).

I will postpone the upgrade as I cannot add any PCI card to my configuration, maybe this will be corrected later .

Hi, after installing DSM you can put your disks back to MB sata ports. So, pci card is only needed to install DSM

Hi all,

trying to build a broadwell-7.0.1-42218 image for 3617 - I have an LSI SAS2308 Fusion MPT SAS-2 controller installed and getting "no drives detected" in syno web assistant.

I am testing installation of the sas drivers but not sure if I am missing a step:

sudo ./rploader.sh ext broadwell-7.0.1-42218 add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pocopico/rp-ext/master/megaraid_sas/rpext-index.json

after this I am building with

 sudo ./rploader.sh build broadwell-7.0.1-42218

it seems to build successfully, no errors in log

Is there any other command I need to run to make sure the loader is built with the sas driver?

When I run satamap I am getting

HBA: 00:17.0 Disks : 6
SataPortMap=6
DiskIdxMap=00

the board has 6 sata ports but I am currently just testing the LSI card

appreciate any help or suggestions in advance!

unfortunately the LSI modules are not included In TC and therefore are not recognized by the auto detection method used in rploader.

it’s strange though that you see no drives detected during install time. Can you start telnet and verify with lsmod if mptsas module is loaded and if fdisk lists any disks ?

When trying to add extension megaraid_sas, igx, igxbe, mptsas, bxn2x, the connection times out. I haven't changed anything so I dont understand why its not connecting. This has been happening since yesterday. Did something change?  I even went and downloaded the tinycore img again just in case.

Github changed their naming conventions.

They removed "master" as a term so any url containing the word master isn't found.

Replace "master" with "main" in all the scripts.

Otherwise you need to wait for the maintainers to do it.

Related to your post, did you ever find a solution for the broken file and the DS3617xs image ? I've been fighting for weeks to get it working for my HP Microserver Gen8 and I always stuck on 55% during the pat file Installation.

Thanks in advance !

With Jun's loader the sata_remap command works this way*:

append sata_remap=5>3:6>4

*grub direct edit

But in RedPill, thetorgroup wrote this:

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/45795-redpill-the-new-loader-for-624-discussion/page/101/?tab=comments#comment-219467

Look for sata_remap in this post, took me a while to understand because i didn't pay attention when i read it for the first time (as a friend pointed out).

So, if you put in grub command line to test, it will look like this:

sata_remap="24\>2:25\>3:26\>10:27\>11:28\>12:29\>13"

But in json file you need the double \\ as thetorgroup wrote mounths ago.

And yes, it's baremetal

Are you sure about the syntax? because this doesn't work. ThorGroup wrote about "" in grub line and about escape " symbol in json, like \"

There is nothing about escaping > symbol. Where did you find this information?

Цитата

It is used but doesn't always work as it should. You guys can also try playing with "sata_remap" or "ahci_remap" options. Their syntax is like: ahci_remap="0>16:16>0:1>17:17>1" and continues. Syno uses this a lot to rearrange ports. Don't forget about the "..." around that map. In JSON you have to escape it like \"

Can anyone confirm, that this syntax works?

I keep running into the same issue trying to build DSM7 with this loader for ESXi 7.0u3.

The build process it all "green" but it looks like no redpill mods are being loaded in the log and goes out with a kernal panic?..

sudo ./rploader ext bromolow-7.0.1-42218 auto (adds Intel 1000e driver)
sudo ./rploader satamap now (says host is vmware and Sataportmap "01" and DiskIdxMap "0000" looks ok)
sudo ./rploader serialgen DS3615xs now
sudo ./rploader build bromolow-7.0.1-42218

ESXi configured with 2 sata controllers, Loader on (0:0) and datadisk on (1:0)

Any help would will be much appreciated. thanks
