Boot USB stick removed

Is it possible after installing 6.2.23739 via USB stick and 2 HDs, to remove the USB stick?

Does Xpenology need the USB stick inserted after booting?

Once DSM started, no you don't need to keep usb stick anymore because DSM is installed on hard drive(s)

 

in the meantime, I think it's a bad idea to remove it since starting on DSM require a Synology valid serial number which is provided by the USB stick.

 

If you reboot your PC, NAS or wathever, that will not boot on DSM.

Exactly, it's required only to boot on it at startup. Nothing more.

FWIW, it IS required whenever a DSM update operation occurs and is modified by the update.

 

From the perspective of a Synology ecosystem, it is expected to be present as it cannot be removed on a real Synology box.

Yes it will run without but in the event of say a power cut it won’t reboot. Also there really isn’t a valid reason to remove it.
