svitale623 Posted January 26, 2016 #1 Posted January 26, 2016 Anyone see a performance increase with a usb 3.0 drive connected to a usb 3.0 port? Just wondering if there is any performance increase.
andale Posted January 26, 2016 #2 Posted January 26, 2016 The USB drive is only needed to start. As soon as the login prompt is displayed everything else in matters of speed and throughput is depending on your overall hardware (CPU, LAN, RAM, board, HDD setup, etc.). The USB drive does not "host" the operating system like in traditional server or desktops. The Disk Station Manager (=DSM) is installed on overy HDD during the initial setup.
brantje Posted January 26, 2016 #3 Posted January 26, 2016 The bootimage is so small, the benefits of usb 3.0 is almost 0. Save your self money and go for a USB 2.0 one.
