GAPP Posted December 30, 2015 #1 Posted December 30, 2015 Hello XPEnology, I've just bought a new NAS on which I wish to use XPEnology. Reading through numerous How-to guides, I'm still not 100% sure on the way I am going to do this, as there seems to be so many options, so I thought I'd ask here before going on. 1) Is there a updated guide somewhere which relates to the newest version that XPEnology supports? (Read that there was instances of the newest version being locked from Synology) 2) Solution to installing without USB drive. Can this be done to work without a small USB drive connected for reboots? (I saw this filename: XPEnoboot 5.2-5644.4 DS3615xs, and thought it might be possible)
magicdotjs Posted December 30, 2015 #2 Posted December 30, 2015 Which server you bought? I just installed on a N54L via ESXI and it was really simple using a guide I found on here. I am sure it listed both ESXI and none ESXI. http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3132 <-- this is one I followed.

andywhit Posted December 31, 2015 #4 Posted December 31, 2015 The guide listed requires the VMWare ESXI environment to be installed on the microserver first. It's up to you if you want to do that. I don't bother with a VM and installed xpenology directly onto the microserver. This requires a USB stick to hold the boot image.
