sweebee Posted December 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2015 I already have a Synology DS214play, I want to use this as a backup server. Now I want to add a better server with XPEnology. I'm looking at the GEN8 with the G1610t and the ML10 V2 with the G3240. Which one to choose? The ML10 is newer and faster. The GEN8 should work fine with XPEnology, but how about the ML10? Are all the drivers already included in the bootimage? Like the network driver. Any advice? Thanks!
solitsnake Posted December 26, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2015 I also need to know; will the ML10 V2 fully work with xpenology? It should be a great upgreade from gen7 to ml10v2
andale Posted December 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 27, 2015 Hi. Don't know about the Smart Array which is used but the Chipset (C222) should be no problem including the NIC. I have two server boards (1x C222 & 1x C224) running on XPEnology bare metal without any problems. I recommend to switch to the standard S-ATA mode or use a more reliable controller/HBA. I'm no fan of HP's Smart Array controllers although I run around 20 ProLiants. Cheers
sweebee Posted December 28, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted December 28, 2015 Well, I ordered a Gen8 last week and its running great never knew it could be so easy. Much faster than the DS716+ and more than halve the price (paid 205 euros).
