Correct procedure for updating to 5644?

Could anyone help me out with the correct procedure in updating Xpenoology as i've never done it before? Currently running 5592 Update 4 and would like to update to 5644.

Do I;

Update my USB bootloader with XPEnoboot DS3615xs 5.2-5644.1

Then reboot the NAS with new Bootloader,

Select 'Install/Upgrade',

Once complete and NAS is up and running update in DSM control panel (manual update?)?

Thanks

If you use iscsi lun do not update

First change to the new bootloader, then start your xpeno normally.

Then you can update from control panel.

If you use esxi you can create a test vm and try there first, to be sure.

Maybe I'm commenting prematurely, just new around here...

So we can just update the USB with the new Xpenology bootloader, then start the NAS and update through control panel? No need to reinstall the .pat and migrate disks over?

Thats right.

I always update the bootloader from the nas it self.

Its easy as:

- wget https://download.xpenology.fr/XPEnology ... 5644.1.img

- find you usbdrive with fdisk -l

- dd if=XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.1.img of=/dev/sdg1

- Then update DSM on your NAS, and reboot

- Enjoy

That's good to know.

I'm way amateur with CLI. Can you elaborate the procedure?

Do I login externally using a shell? Or

Do I use the NAS's shell?

I'll do some research myself to try to understand, but if anyone has some time to explain it better please do...

Thanks guys!

I was thinking about about writing a spk app, so you could do the same directly from the DSM UI.

It could include features such as:

- One click update + auto restart option

- Auto update

- Version check/inform about availability of new bootloader

- Safe to update widget

- Quick set of safe system update settings
