But... If I cannot put more than 9 on sataportmap, how can I set to my 10 disks?

My suggestion was to remove the A and test, as I doubt that it actualy has any effect. It's a pitty that the comments with documentation in the file `synoconfigs/Kconfig.devices` are removed in the current kernel sources - though older versions of the kconfig.devides came with documentation and pointed out what I wrote: SataPortMap is a single decimal digit from 1 to 9. The information could either still apply or be outdated.. Thus said: please test and report back!

The most important part is to trim down the first controller to a single port and "map it out of the way", like you did.

If memory serves right, the virtual sata controllers in ESXi have 32 ports by default and can't be changed.

Appart of that, all additional controllers and their ports will be still detected - with settings the first drive of the second controller to 00 you made sure they start as disk 1.

Now I'm trying to add a nvme disk (connected to pcie), but without success. It's not mandatory this last issue.

nvme disk only can use as a disk cache

it's possible to create a volume on nvme and use for smth. here is HOWTO

I can't confirm that its working without patching the libs. Actually I have received the only cache device inside the storage manager. But it that case I can mount the ssd to the separate folder 📂.

Hi,

No problem, I will contact you.

I think you will have a lot of work to update your extension git ;)

Thank you

I have add support for ds3617xs DSM 6.2.4-25556 update 2.

https://github.com/jimmyGALLAND/redpill-load/commit/54f487c0de637f88206d4a7b2d07415a31e242e2

and of course base extension https://github.com/jimmyGALLAND/redpill-ext

To allow this, i add function in redpill-load to manage flashupdate deb package (required tool dpkg)

https://github.com/jimmyGALLAND/redpill-load/commit/66a6d3796bf75b0f9702e24a6fe3c672e71db042

The procedure is,

1) install the DSM 6.2.4-25556 update 2 package from DSM 6.2.4-25556 gui installation

https://global.download.synology.com/download/DSM/criticalupdate/update_pack/25556-2/synology_broadwell_3617xs.pat

2) Restart system on ds3617xs-6.2.4-25556u2 loader image build to terminate the migration/update.

Good evening ! Synoguy !

Hello, I would like to know if you plan to try to update the platform such as DS3622xs, RS4021xs, etc. If we are trying a new platform, why not use the platform which released later?

how do you build the DS3617xs loader?, for a first test I modified the redpill-helper-v0.12 and added your branch and after ..build broadwell-6.2.4-25556 under opt / redpill-load / config / DS3617xs / 6.2.4-25556 / i customized the config.json. In regards to a 3167 port, it was my understanding that redpill was having issues with hot plug for a yet to be uncovered reason which is why it wasn’t ported earlier.

Good evening,

Unfortunately, I do not have the level  skills of the Thor group and i don't have enought time to study how to got serials for other platforms. By the way i haven't got an DS3622xs, RS4021xs. No good black friday with synology ;) !

For the 3617xs, we have serials, and I have a 3617xs at home. I wouldn't want to migrate it to a 918+. I still hope TTG is working on a new platforms. But the development has been at standby for several months so i'm trying to make small progress.

Actually Yes, but also a way to get serials for these platforms. And after why not try.

Yo,

I noticed a very weird thing about adding ds3615xs-6.2.4-25556 update 2.

The kernel boot of this update failed start with kernel panic.

So I forced with the bsp file patch, go back to the previous kernel version (certainly not ideal!). And this time  redpill boot failed with message explain the serial ports aren't swap. I disable port swapping in ds3615xs config platform in redpill-lkm, and it works!

First, it's weird that the boot of this version hangs at this point, and why ?!

And another problem is the fact redpill-lkm does not manage several types of configuration for the same platform!

I think an improvement on this point should be considered! Volunteers ? ;)

I installed xpenology on esxi 6.7. With just a virtual disk it works. But i wanted to test it with a SAS pci card so i added the mpt2sas drivers. But dsm doesn't find any hard drives.

@pocopico Does one of your driver extensions support using SCSI virtual disks in ESXi? I built an image using redpill-helper and 3615xs v7.0.1 from jumkey's branch but SCSI disks added to the VM don't show up for installing DSM, only SATA controller virtual disks. I thought I read somewhere once that 3615xs has SCSI natively in it already.

Also, anyone know why on TTG redpill-load builds I can add redpill loader image as SATA 0 controller and then add SATA 1 controller for data disks, but on jumkey's 7.0.1 all virtual disks have to be on SATA 0 controller to be seen for DSM install? How do you use 2 separate SATA controllers as is typically recommended? No problem getting it to work like that on TTG repo based builds.

That’s strange, I have tested and verified multiple times with LSI SAS. I think though that is either LSI SCSI or LSI SAS that needs the mptsas extension.

You may also try VMware paravirtual that is also tested and works.

If anyone has an actual HW and can share the required PCI info then it should not be very difficult.

That’s strange, I have tested and verified multiple times with LSI SAS. I think though that is either LSI SCSI or LSI SAS that needs the mptsas extension.

You may also try VMware paravirtual that is also tested and works.

I tried loading mpt2sas extension into 7.0.1 loader and used LSI SAS, LSI Parallel, and VMware paravirtual with a virtual SCSI disk on ESXi but that virtual disk doesn't show up in DSM at all. Only SATA virtual disks show up in DSM.

I surely can see 8 drives configured on a VM with the following lspci

0000:0b:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: Broadcom / LSI SAS1068 PCI-X Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01)
        DeviceName: SCSI0
        Subsystem: VMware Device 1976
        Kernel driver in use: mptsas
0000:13:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: Broadcom / LSI SAS1068 PCI-X Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01)
        DeviceName: SCSI1
        Subsystem: VMware Device 1976
        Kernel driver in use: mptsas

For LSI SAS you should use the mptsas extension and for vmware paravirtual you need to use the :

For vmware paravirtual scsi :

Redpill's development is on hold or has it definitely died? Some news from ThorGroup?

That discussion should probably be posted in:

At this point its unlikely that ThorGroup returns. Most likely due to personal reasons given that the repository is still active and the rather sudden silence after spending so much time responding to comments and giving long and incredible intriguing changelogs. I'm sure someone knows more, but nothing has been posted as of yet. Whether or not it's dead or just on hold all depends if someone else takes over the project.
