RedPill - the new loader for 6.2.4 - Discussion

Yes thanks i know this issue, but i hoped that somebody have new insider informations about a possible workaround... so i still have to wait on 6.2.3

I dont know about unraid but on esxi i prefer to just passthrough the disks and not the HBA itself. This way i can set the disks to SATA and i dont bother about the SCSI issue for the moment.

First restart was about 10 minutes after install, but I didn't try it again.

FYI, 6.2 with JUN's loader took 8-10 minutes on the same motherboard.

Booting with Jun's loader on my ASRock J4105 motherboard is 2 minutes or less... But with redpill I can't get any network activity even though others with similar boards have reported it working 🤷🏾‍♂️

You then have no SMART support inside DSM.

Whereas HBA passtrough (on 6.2.3) makes SMART work inside DSM. So real DSM monitoring in case a disk dies.

I have no problem with OFFICE or other package .

I testing baremetal from scratch, it's ok but i have a question,it's possible to migrate my old install 6.2.3 to 7.0.1 ?

Everytime when I think, there is nothing left to optimize on the toolchain builder someone commes around and finds something that makes sense to be added... Thus said, here is the v0.9 of the toolchain builder.

- added sha256  cheksum for kernel and toolkit-dev downloads in `global_config.json`. The item `"download_urls"` is renamed to `"downloads"` and has a new structure. Make sure to allign your custom <platform version> configurations to the new structure when copying them into the `global_config.json`
- check checksum of kernel or toolkit-dev when building the image and fail if checksums missmatch. Will not delete the corrupt file!
- added`"docker.custom_bind_mounts"` in `global_config.json` to add as many custom bind-mounts as you want, set `"docker.use_custom_bind_mounts":` to `"true"` enable the feature.
- fixed: only download kernel or toolkit-dev required to build the image (always downloaded both before, but only used either one of them when building the image)
- added simple precondition check to see if required tools are available

See README.md for usage.

There is some thing wrong with v0.9 toolchain' UEFI boot, can not boot. Fallback to v0.8 uefi works fine.

I tried to install Proxmox 7.0 VE on my Gen8...

I did not succeed to install Jun's 6.2.3 loader even with tutorials, install failed at 57% (error 13)...

I was also aware of a PCI passthrough issue with Gen6/7/8 so I tried to add my LSI card as passthrough, the VM did not want to start (operation not permitted)

the fix there (the PR from issue comment for Proxmox7) did not work for me : https://github.com/kiler129/relax-intel-rmrr/blob/master/README.md#configuration

So I'll stick to ESXi and wait for HBA passthrough fix from @ThorGroup :)

Sorry for going off topic for a moment, but I see a few people wanting 10GB ethernet. I wonder, do you have a 10GB ethernet switch, and any other 10GB capable devices on your LAN (or multiple 1Gb clients capable needing an aggregate 10GB throughput)? Do you even have a storage array capable of saturating a 10GB link? Just wondering what the use case is for hardware like this, as it's the sort of thing that's very rarely properly utilised outside of datacentres...

You have 8GB internet at home 😮

I mean, my workplace has 40Gb/s, but we do 100Gb/s across the campus backbone, 20Gb/s to the distribution layer and 1Gb/s to most edge devices. My personal NAS (running Plex) hosted at work is on a teamed 2x1Gb link and the 8 disk array in that can't saturate that link.

What do you *do* with 8Gb? 🤣

Hi,

I need your help for add the driver for ASUS XG-C100C ( aquantia )

Best regard

I have experience on Aquantia (Qnap QXG-10G1T), I tried to put different version of driver (included compiled by myself) to the loader, but none of them is working. However, after installed DSM, just create a script and upload to "/usr/lib/modules-load.d/" then copy atlantic.ko to "/usr/lib/modules/", reboot and it will works. I attached the files if needed.
