Playing 1080p MKV videos directly off XPEnology on HP Gen8

Hi guys,

 

My apologies if this is a dumb question, but for some reason I could not find clear information on my query after digging around.

I've just bought a HP Gen8 Microserver (with a HD5450 card add-on with HDMI), and I would like to play videos off it.

If I install XPEnology onto the microserver, would I be able to play 1080p videos directly off the hard drive and output via HDMI? If so, how do I do it? Do I install VLC media player?

but i guess you can go with exsi and run dsm and openelec
