b1lou Posted November 5, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 5, 2015 Hello, I've noticed some frequent disconnects on my samba share for a few weeks now, but never had the time to really follow up on it until yesterday. So yesterday I looked into the smb logs but couldn't find anything abnormal, but the dmesg log showed frequent disconnects on eth0: Wed Nov 4 07:52:17 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Down >Wed Nov 4 07:52:19 2015 init: dhcp-client (eth0) main process (18549) killed by TERM signal >Wed Nov 4 07:52:19 2015 init: smbd main process (19876) killed by TERM signal Wed Nov 4 07:52:20 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX Wed Nov 4 09:56:07 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Down >Wed Nov 4 09:56:08 2015 init: dhcp-client (eth0) main process (25634) killed by TERM signal >Wed Nov 4 09:56:08 2015 init: smbd main process (27055) killed by TERM signal Wed Nov 4 09:56:10 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX Wed Nov 4 19:57:21 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Down >Wed Nov 4 19:57:22 2015 init: dhcp-client (eth0) main process (32167) killed by TERM signal >Wed Nov 4 19:57:22 2015 init: smbd main process (7185) killed by TERM signal Wed Nov 4 19:57:24 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX Wed Nov 4 23:06:49 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Down >Wed Nov 4 23:06:50 2015 init: dhcp-client (eth0) main process (1972) killed by TERM signal >Wed Nov 4 23:06:51 2015 init: smbd main process (3355) killed by TERM signal Wed Nov 4 23:06:52 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX Thu Nov 5 06:44:18 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Down >Thu Nov 5 06:44:19 2015 init: dhcp-client (eth0) main process (7647) killed by TERM signal >Thu Nov 5 06:44:19 2015 init: smbd main process (9044) killed by TERM signal Thu Nov 5 06:44:20 2015 igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX My Board is a ASRock Rack E3C226D2I with Intel i210 NICs that should be supported by XPEnology out of the box. I can't really tell when the problems started, but I'm pretty sure nothing changed on the hardware side since then. I'm on DSM 5.2-5592 Update 4. Any ideas what could cause the problems? b1lou Posted November 6, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted November 6, 2015 I've pinged the NAS from three different computers and all pings were interrupted at the same time. So the problem is definitely on the NAS side. Anyone?
b1lou Posted November 22, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted November 22, 2015 Just a heads up for anyone who has similar problems: My NETGEAR GS116Ev2 caused the disconnects. I even got a replacement unit from NETGEAR, but I had the exact same problems. I've now replaced the NETGEAR switch with a TP-LINK TL-SG3216 and everything works like a charm.
